I agree with them. Seriously stupid comment.
I work in public schools, my kids go to public schools (and always will), and at my school I hire ONLY people who have passed FBI / Highway Patrol background checks (as required by law) and that convince me in person, AND through in-depth reference checks that they are good people.
Just a thought... if you're that upset about public schools, then DO SOMETHING about it. Run for the school board, volunteer, whatever. If there's a problem let's fix it for ALL our kids.

Why run for the board, when I do not send my children to the schools. I vote down every referendum that they try to get passed. I belive that everything my child needs to learn, I can teach them, and then more. Talk to the children at public schools, and ask them about the Challenger, and what it meant to the schools when It happened. 90% of the children will ask you , "Challenger, whats the Challenger". That right there is so wrong.. Back in 1986, when my Neice and Newphew were in grade school, That was the biggest thing of the year, no matter if you were in Kindergarten, or in College. They do not teach the children what they need to know.. They do not teach them what is going on over in the Middle East, They do not know that we are NOT welcomed over there. We are sending our CHILDREN over there to fight something that the people over there need to be taking care of themselves. I went through it during Vietnam. I lost many good friends for another war that we should have not been in, and something that they can never give back are my friends.krusin1 wrote:Tiki Bar wrote:No offense, but that has to be about the stupidest thing I've ever read...A Balding Fan wrote:But my children come first, some people do not care, and send their children away to public schools where child molesters run the halls.![]()

My kids go to private schools, not because I think public ones are evil...but I feel it's my responsibility as a parent to determine the best schooling we can provide for them, within our means. The public schools in my area are crap, so I won't send my kids there.A Balding Fan wrote: Im sorry if I am ranting, But i am a big beliver that public schools are a big evil in this world. However, using Fareneheit 9/11 is hardly an adequate or accurate representation of public schools. Are you thinking of Bowling for Columbine instead? If so, I grew up in Colorado and have known many, many people that attended Columbine high school.
The same kind of stuff can happen in any school, public or private. It's the responsibility of parents to ensure children are getting the education and support they need to be successful members of society.

Re: Thanks Jimmy....
Well, to answer the first question... if you see a problem with public schools, it's probably worth your while to try to help fix them because your children are going to have to live and work with all those kids who DO go to public schools. On that same general thought, the heroes of this world, the ones who made a real difference, are not the ones who sealed off their loved ones and let the rest of the world fend for itself. They're the ones who set about trying to right the wrongs they saw, even if it didn't affect their immediate friends and family.A Balding Fan wrote:Why run for the board, when I do not send my children to the schools.krusin1 wrote:Tiki Bar wrote:No offense, but that has to be about the stupidest thing I've ever read...A Balding Fan wrote:But my children come first, some people do not care, and send their children away to public schools where child molesters run the halls.![]()

Now, on to the subject matter. At our school kids DO learn those things. Maybe it's not happening at your local neighborhood school, but that's all the more reason to try to fix it.
Listen... public schools are NOT evil. They're a big reason our country is the technological and economic leader of the world. A commitment made by the founding fathers has paid off enormously. They believed in an educated populace - accomplished through free public education - and although we can argue about how well educated we really are, the fact is, as a nation we do pretty well.
I'll admit, there are some pretty bad public schools, and maybe some of them ought to be shut down and replaced, BUT... as teachers, we serve a LOT of kids who otherwise wouldn't learn to read and write, and sometimes wouldn't even get a hot meal.
Now, last thing, (and this will be as close to a flame as I get.) Dude... quoting Michael Moore doesn't exactly help you in an intellectual debate.

Stop relying on schools to do the right thing, teach your kids right from wrong and while you're at it.. STFU.
