Another mean spirited attack on a person simply "TRYING"( operative word) to express his humble opinion.
My question is, Isn't Buffett News an exchange of ideas? If it is, then BNer's should welcome all and everyone 's HUMBLE opinion. Agree or disagree, but lose the mean spiritedness. It accomplishes nothing and makes the "INNER CIRCLE" members of BN, look like arrogant bullies. Also, if a poster hasn't been around for years, it doesn't mean that their opinion isn't valid. My wife and I have stopped , for the most part, posting our opinions because everytime we do, someone takes great satisfaction in picking apart every word of the post. The true Parrothead spirit should be welcoming to all who love JB and his music. This poster is obviously disappointed that for him it is a financial hardship to spend $500.00 to attend a Buffett concert. If it isn't for you, Be grateful and wish him well and let him know that we wish he could be there, if only in spirit! My wife and I are probably old enough, to be most of your parents. Give a little respect ! We saw Jimmy for the first time in 1981 and have had the good fortune to see Jimmy about 50 times. but even we have to think if it is pragmatic to spend thousands of dollars to take a road trip to see Jimmy! Remember not everyone is an IT professional ,or an Attorney or whatever, making high 5 figure salaries or more. So if spending $500. or $10,000 dollars to see Jimmy isn't a financial hardship, Get down on your knees and thank God and your Parents for your wonderful education and the Blessings it has brought into your life! IMHO! Phins Up and remember........we all share a love for the man and his music!

THANK YOU, SIR!

You and I are about the same age, which is refreshing, because I was reading through these posts and thinking "are these people REALLY parrotheads?" Thanks for your VERY profound words. I'd LOVE to buy you 100,000 beers!

I agree with your view 1,000 %!!!!
I missed all of the grammar going ons while I was posting.
Often I am a victim of the grammar and spelling nazis (as if I give a flying gnat fart in a hurricane).... they are the ones I was referring to being OCD and anal retentive and that is why I was asking.
People want to claim there is no clique around here and that the majority telling others to leave this board/forum, because someone wants/wishes to offer a different opine and are not willing to pay $500 or more for a concert?
When it comes down to spending that kind of money on one concert it becomes a status symbol..............and a status that is contradictory to the lifestyle the music portrays.....
At $500.00 per couple with 6 couples per concert, that would be $3,000.00! How much partying could we do for that ??? Dress up as we want and have no crowds and no traffic..........and NO BATHROOM LINES!!!!! and hear the songs we want to hear!!!!
Again I offer to by you beverages.....and my apologies!!!!

I can not imagine anyone making such a ridiculous, over-the-top broad statement about public schools.
My wife, sister, mom and brother are public school teachers... I do not believe that they nor any of their collegues are "Child Molesters".
As for private schools, I can only guess that you may find more "child molesters" at a private catholic school (based on recent events).
Anyway, sorry you can't afford the concert this year... good luck protecting your children from the awful people who infiltrate the public school system

People aren't attacking him because he doesn't want to spend his money on Buffett. (There are lots of people on this board who feel that these concerts are getting too pricey and are re-prioritizing)parrothead216 wrote:![]()

And people aren't attacking him because he would rather spend his money on his children's education. (This I find very admirable)
People ARE attacking him becuase of the ignorant statement he made regarding public education in America.
I attended private school my entire life and I have friends who went to public school, and I can admit that some of my public school freinds are smarter and better educated then myself and some of my private school friends (One of my public school friends received his Masters from Columbia).
I could go into a rant that would make this post too polictcal and controversial, but I will resist.
However, I will say that we all share in the responsibility to educate our children (as teachers, parents, mentors, and family). If a child does not understand what happened to the "Challenger" or other important historical events then we all failed (not just the teachers). To levy full responsibility for eductating children on teachers is not fair and to blame the ills of our society on public education is just plain ignotant and un-informed.
My rant is over.

I think this whole fiasco started with the comment about the state of the public education system, with the reference that there are child molesters in the schools. With a lot of folks on this board who are teachers both in the public and private sectors I think some of them took issue with those comments. I really don't think that anyone was really trying to offend anyone.
My opinion on the education in this country is this. First, if you can afford to and have the time to home school you kids then that is great. However, the majority of us cannot do that. I feel to totally reject the public education system is like junking your car if the transmission goes out. If things are going to improve we have to stick with the teachers and try to work this thing out. The behavior of the kids in the schools has more to do with the parents than with the schools. If the children were made to behave at home then they would at school. If I misbehaved at school, I got a paddling at school and then another one at home and after awhile by George I learned not to misbehave and to pay attention. Teachers and schools are so afraid of getting sued that they cannot create a sense of discipline and a safe, effective learning environment. This is everyone's fight. Even if you don't have children I feel that we owe it to the future of this country to support the public school system. The children are the greatest resource this nation has. Just my two cents.
Now to the original premise of this thread. I agree that ticket prices are way too high, especially if you have to drive or fly half a day to get to the venue.

EXACTLY on the mark. Thank you, my friend, for the thoughtful clarity.
Public schools aren't perfect, but they are a major reason our nation is a world leader. Now, let's all get together and fix the problems so ALL our kids benefit.
Have a great day.

My life is moving on just fine, thank you. I make comments regarding his spelling because of his claim of being able to teach his children everything they need to know with home schooling. Mispelled words are out of control in our society right now, and whether you think it's no big deal or not, it is a reflection of poor education, IMHO.prthd4353 wrote:I feel bad for those who are judging by spelling you obviously have no life and stop attacking this person because his opinions differ from yours, someone’s spelling ability does not reflect on their intelligence, I miss spell words all day long on the internet and don’t bother to change them even though I know I misspelled them. This is what I had an issue with, and I too have a right to express my opinion. He is essentially saying all parents of kids in public schools do not care about them, and that is assinine, I don't care who you are! Plus, I don't think child molesters are running in the halls at my kids school, and it seems like I hear more about that stuff in private schools.Tiki Bar wrote:No offense, but that has to be about the stupidest thing I've ever read...A Balding Fan wrote:But my children come first, some people do not care, and send their children away to public schools where child molesters run the halls.![]()
