Dear Mr. James Buffett

I have been going to your concerts for over 25 years. Since back in the day at the Quiet Knight in Chicago.

I have seen you over 50 times, all across the United States. I have been to over 50 of your shows---probably more close to 100. This is the first year I will not be attending any of your shows. Why you may ask? Very simple. You are getting way too greedy, just like Bono from U2. There is no need to be charging over 100 dollars a ticket for your shows. I have never paid that much for a concert ticket in my many years of going to concerts. I do remember paying 25 dollars to see Procolm Harem at the Aragon Ballrom In Chicago back in the late 60's, and then I thought that was a lot of money. This is way before they nick named the place the Aragon Brawlroom.

For me to spend 130 dollars per a ticket for me and my girl (130x2=260 plus service charges---mays well call it 300 dollars) is just absurd. Wiith that kind of money, I could be driving a brand new Benz( though Im sure you have quite a few of those). Plus you must figure in drinking before and during the show, since we will not be able to tailgate ($100x2) which is another 200 dollars at least---- your looking at 500 dollars for a single show. Im sorry, much like you--I do send my children to Montessori schools too.

Im sorry I can not spend that much money on just a SINGLE show this summer. My kids are my life, and I will not deprive them of a great education.

I do want to thank you for all the shows I have seen, and I have enjoyed them. I miss seeing just you by yourself with the accoustic guitar, in fact my favorite part of your shows in the last few years has been the accoustic set you and Mac have done.

But my children come first, some people do not care, and send their children away to public schools where child molesters run the halls. I much rather see my children become better citizens of this earth, then spend 500 dollars on me and my girlfriend on just one night.

Thanks again,

A Balding Fan

( much like you)

I know this wasn't the intention of this thread, but I have to disagree with this statement.

Our child has been to both, public school and private school and I really do not believe there were any more child molesters at one school than the other.
This is a common thought of people that have NOT had a child in the public school system.

Industry standards are more likely to blame for the costs of tickets.
Everything costs money, and while Jimmy has oodles of it... he's earned it...

Price of gas just went up.. did you stop driving?
Cows are pricey... did you stop eating beef?
And that damn post office... just how much do they think they can charge for a single stamp... Not sending any more letter or presents to family?

To go to a show you don't need the best seats in the house.. you can get lawn... slum it down a bit, enjoy the show with the stewage (that's me) and bring your own beer to the tailgate...
I might not have an expendable budget, but I scrimp and save to have the funds to see Jimmy play. I don't go to every show, I'm lucky to get to one a year...

Count your blessings.

Wow, that statement floored me, too........I send my child to a public school, I monitor her education and progress very closely. I would prefer that my daughter learns to get along with everyone and learns to exist in the diverse world that she will soon be a citizen of.....not just the Stepford kids at the local high dollar private school (I'm speaking about the school locally that I am familiar with....NOT all private schools)....as far as child molesters.....check the local sex offender registry...they're everywhere. Guess I've just never considered myself a lousy parent because I go to a Buffett show or two......
Wow, struck a nerve....sorry.

Wow, BF...pretty strong comment there about public schools.... :o :-? :-? :-?

Anyway, there are the $90 seats vs. $130 (I know that's still not cheap) and you know the Cubs are taking a big chunk on this one (reason for the concert is to get revenue they don't have to share with other teams, and as part of the agreement $150K off the top goes directly to the neighborhood).

For other venues, I think we (Buffett fans) are subsidizing a lot of other shows because Buffett tickets are what sells. I wouldn't be surprised if venues have 2-3x the markup on Buffett tickets as they do for most any other show. So we pay for his popularity and for all of those other shows that don't sell out. Given the way the system is currently set up, that's pretty much the deal. Jimmy wants to get paid what he's worth, but I really don't think he's doing all of the reaching deep into fans' pockets these days.

For those of you with keets and/or tight budgets, I'm sure it's tough and you have my sympathies. Hopefully some more affordable options will come around again. Keep your fins up!

No, that statement was sadly beyond offensive to many, I'm afraid. I can't imagine how a dedicated public school teacher would feel about that...and I know there are several on this board.

Kudos to all who help educate our next generations.
