Here's my perspective...they "woke up" for the lower tier acts, and this gives them some good PR. The big draws (e.g. Buffett), however, are getting more expensive than ever...we're clearly subsidizing the lower-priced acts. The venues (Clear Channel) have decided to get it where they can...this has probably been the game for a while, but I think it's getting extreme. I really don't believe Jimmy is demanding a 25% raise this year but the Indy ticket prices have gone up that much.
Within reason, I'd prefer to pay for what I'm going to see vs. paying for acts that can't make a profit for the venues. Seems to me there's some overcapacity re. venues and/or just not enough good bands/performers out there to compete with other forms of entertainment. Or, people (shareholders, owners, promoters, etc.) have just flat out gotten too greedy as to what an acceptable profit should be.
I'd love for Jimmy's next round of contracts to place a limit on how much "extra" the venues can make from his shows. He'd have the negotiating power to do it.
