Ticket Prices - STOP COMPLAINING!

Ok, I've finally waded through all the ticket price threads I can handle and now its time for me to vent. If its going to offend you, I suggest clicking on another thread now.

What people need to understand is that Jimmy is unlike almost every other musical act that is still touring. Most bands/singers go city to city to give local fans a chance to see them live. Jimmy has an audience that travels, literally, all over the country to see him play at different venues. Personally, living in Atlanta; I've met people from NY in Dallas, people from CA in Wisconsin, and people from OK in Vegas. Those are just a few of the starters.

People are going to travel to see Jimmy. There are two ways to look at the problem you are having with pricing. One, he is trying to make it less cost effective for people to fly in to see him (hotels, airfare, etc.) so that more local people show up. Or two, he is actually charging what the market will bear for a ticket.

Either way, cough up the dough and go see him or listen for free on Radio Margaritaville. Someone is going to pay the ticket prices. Complaining on BN will not lower them any.

I agree.... I have friends who go to see U2 when they can and they pay 130 normally........ We are lucky how many concerts Jimmy plays.. I am fortunate enough to have seen him 20 some times at 35 doallars. And I still feel fortuante to see him two times in Philly this year for 100 doallrs..

Jimmy just purchased a 11.7 million dollar apartment in N.Y.C.

If he wanted to control the price of tickets he could. The purchase of the item above leads me to believe that he is just fine with the prices were they are. The rich just get richer......oh well. I thought it was suppose to be about the music....but it's clearly about the $.

I guess for many of us concert goers in general, Jimmy has always made a conscious effort to keep prices down...hence consistent $29-$36 lawn seats for years now....even though other less-popular, non-sold-out acts charged more. It was more about the music and less about the money.

For me, it felt like he cared that ALL Buffett fans, big wallets and small, could afford to go. It seems that in the last two seasons, the gloves are off and prices are really out of control......before we could beef with Ticketmaster with their absurd charges....but now the actual face value of tickets is getting a little out of reach.

MONEY, MONEY, MONEY.

The question is....when will it stop?

What will BNers be about when NONE....and I mean NONE of us can afford to buy tickets.....think big bucks.....like out-the-back-door scalper bucks...for all tickets......don't laugh because it is coming.

We will be left posting about the 'good old days' when we saw Buffett live...and not on DVD or VHS.

That time is coming...sooner than later.....make no mistake.

About the time when the entire audience is full of VIPs and the fat rich who care little about the MUSIC....about that time is when Buffett will look out at this audience and realize his time has come and gone.

Tiki his costs aren't rising enough to justify a 25 -100% rise in the cost of a ticket - period. You just don't know anyone in the buisness of concert promotion like I do and you don't understand the in's and out's of the promotion business. But your argument that his costs have risen enough to justify a huge increase dosn't hold water. The huge increase is because he allows so many tickets to be given away free to sponsors media etc and he asks x amount for each show. The result - 1/3 to 1/2 of the venue is not sold but given away and the remaining tickets for sell the price is risen to make his freaking profit. Do away with the give away tickets and prices will fall.

Putting a concert on at Wrigley is undoubtedly going to cost significantly more than the Tweeter Center. They have to cover the field to protect it so that the Cubs have no excuse for losing in September other than their team. There is a large check being written to the Wrigleyville neighborhood to get them to agree to allow a concert. For the Tweeter Center, they basically show up, set up, and play.

As for Jimmy's right to make money, go for it. He has given such a high level of enjoyment to so many of us that he has the right to benefit from it. For the Tweeter Center concerts in Chicago, his tickets are as low or lower of virtually every other national act that plays there. However, most of those don't sell out in 5 minutes like JB does. He could've been charging more for years and hasn't. And, as Wrigley proved, people will pay to see him. Some of it is corporate but most of it are his loyal PHans.

Finally, in a few years, when he decides to retire, you are all going to wish you could pay $130 for one more night of entertainment, Parrot Head Style. And yes, that day is probably coming sooner than we would all like.

Not to sound like a pr*ck, but the truth of the matter is that these shows are entertainment, and therefore are a luxury item. Not everyone can afford every luxury item they would like. Others choose not to spend the money on a particular luxury item even if they can afford it, as it falls lower on their scale of priorities.

I'd love to have a 2005 Road King in my garage. But right now I can't afford to spend the $20,000 on that particular luxury item. You know what I do? I s*ck it up and deal with it - I don't go to Harley discussion boards and b*tch that HD is greedy and pricing me out what I truly deserve as a long time customer.
