Dukes on Sunday
I noticed that JB switched up his final encore to this song. How was it? Who is it by?

Henry Kapono plays at Duke's most Sundays. The song grew out of that live show. HK also has a CD out called Duke's on Sunday. One of the songs on that CD is Volcano.

I gave it a quick listen this morning, it sounded cool, but my recorder cut it off with a minute or so left to go. I was not pleased.

Henry Kapono
Henry Kapono plays on Sunday at Duke's Bar and Grill. Duke's is a homage to Duke Kahanomoku. It's in the Outrigger Hotel -- on the section of Waikiki known as Duke's beach.
Henry Kapono is a great local artist -- used to team up with another guy -- Cecilio Rodriques - formed a duo - Cecilio and Kapono -- a kind of soft rock and Hawaiian music duo, similar to Loggins and Messina and very popular in that era.
Strictly a single act now.

Sunday afternoon, 3:00-6:00, when he's in town. He also plays at his own place, Kapono's, in the Aloha Tower Marketplace in Honolulu, on Wednesday and Friday evenings 6:00-9:00, when he's in town.UpstateNYPH wrote:I'm heading to Honolulu in December, does anyone know what days Henry plays at Kopono's (his place), or if he does. I would love to catch a show there.

Everytime I listen to this song I like it even more. I just ordered Henry Kapono's "Live - Duke's on Sunday" CD from his website. Check it out http://www.henrykapono.com
Thanks for confirming that he was the other half of Cecelio and Kapono. I first heard them in Hawaii in the early 80's. If I heard some songs now, it would transport be back to those cool winds and lovely beaches. I miss Hawaii, been too long. Have to save up my money for a trip for Buffett and maybe catch Kapono too.

Okay, its a good song, but I think I speak for everyone that was posting as they were listening in saying that when he moved APL@40 to the middle of the second set, we were all set for A Salty Piece Of Land. I for one was kinda dissapointed that the last encore wasn't even a Buffett song. Oh well, he'll be back in June!
I still love old magazines and Snickers bars....

Understandable, but download the song Hawaiiboy posted, and I guarantee it will grow on you. It's a great song, and kudos to Henry Kapono for writing it and allowing JB to play it with him.Jason Mason wrote:Okay, its a good song, but I think I speak for everyone that was posting as they were listening in saying that when he moved APL@40 to the middle of the second set, we were all set for A Salty Piece Of Land.
