I know and I actually expected a flaming response. I just wanted to make sure everyone knew I wasn't trying to joke about it, but rather looking for a serious answer.
No, you were clearly asking for info, not being a jerk about it.... For those of us who are connected through real life rather than just books and history, it's our job to tell the story.

Trust me, it takes quite a bit to offend me. I like to joke around quite a bit, but I also like to hear bits of history from people who lived it. Like you said, to most of us it is nothing more than a paragraph in a book.

I am glad you took it the right way and understood what I and SGH meant and I had no intention of flaming you.

There are quite a few others that post in here reguarly that were actually incountry and could posibly tell you a bit more about the goings on at the time.

When Our Troops returned from SEA........the reception they recieved was to politely put it..."less than" a warm welcome home.... any Nam Vet I ever meet I always tell him or her WELCOME HOME BROTHER or SISTER as approriate and make the offer to buy them at least one drink and perhaps a meal if they are down on funds.

Perhaps you might consider befriending a vet who was there and learning more about what was going on in those times, don't force him or her talk about it ...just let it come as it will....otherwise you may find your feelings greatly hurt.... I am not meaning this as any insult ...just as a bit of advice..give or take as you or anyone may choose.

NOTE: BEWARE....THERE ARE MANY WANNABEES OUT THERE AND WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE! They talk the talk but never walked the talk!.. I wish you all the best!

I don't condone the spitting, a cowardly thing to do in my opinion. However, Hanoi Jane was directly responsible for the death and torture of American Service Men and I feel she is a disgusting, evil excuse for a human being, total waste of good oxygen.

During the first Gulf war Joan Baez sang to the Iraqi troops in the trenches over there, I wonder why she hasn't been subjected to the same treatment as Jane Fonda.

Joan Baez DID make apologies and I don't recall Joan Baez having her photo taken sitting behind an aircraft gun in North Vietnam or visiting there during the war.
I do not recall Joan Baez ever being called a traitor either or performng traitorous deeds....

Thanks for clearing that up, I wasn't aware that she had apologized. As for what she did during the Vietnam War, I have no idea about that, I'm refering to her actions during the first Gulf war.

I have no problem with people protesting a war. Many people burned their draft cards and subsequently went to jail for it. Thats free speech and thats what makes this country so great, being able to have the ability to speak out if you feel the government isnt correct. But what Hanoi Jane did is unforgiveable. If she felt that strongly against the war she could have found ways to protest that didnt involve hanging American POW's out to dry. What she did is pure treason and I think she is just a rotten terrible human being.

Jahfin,
Do you have any links about Joan Baez palying to the Iraqi troops?
Was she singing to the troops before the war started?
I have not found anything on it...also it is possible Joan Baez did go to North Vietnam .....I know she went to Vietnam but not where or when during the war But I cannot recall much about it now......

There was mention of someone e-mailing, a morning tv show, wanting to know where and how they could send money to Michael A. Smith....
