Who's the Unpopular Poet?

Post by nycparrothead »

Perhaps I should know this and I did try to search for it but since "Search feature is not available at this time" I wasn't able to find anything..

Is he fictitious? If not, who is he?

Ken Patchett. I believe Jerry Jeff Walker turned JB onto him. There's some dialogue about this on the JJW 60th birthday celebration concert that was broadcast on Radio Margaritaville.
It was a pleasure and a hell of an evening
Truly was our night to win
But the authorities insist on my leaving
Take care my American friend

I think JB credits both Ken Patchett & Richard Farina as inspiring the song.
I know Jimmy Buffett, Jimmy Buffett is a friend of mine. Son, you're no Jimmy Buffett!

That song literally changed my life. Always a creative lad, I heard that song live as a second encore in 1991 in Tallahassee, FL. It really left me with a feeling of uneasiness about my life. I finished up my business degree at FSU as planned but soon followed my heart and went to grad school in English. My life has been a Jimmy Buffett song ever since. The adventure never ends....
