WSJ Article

Post by phjim »

The Wall Street Journal has an article: "'Uncle' Warren Buffett And 'Cousin' Jimmy Make Beautiful Music"

The big-name Buffetts want to believe in their connection. "I do see some family resemblance," insists Jimmy Buffett, who adds that he has always "just kind of assumed" a family relation. Both Buffett men say they are willing to participate in Ms. Buffett's DNA test, although they add that so far, at least, she hasn't made definite plans with either of them to conduct it.

It's an interesting article but I wish the WSJ would have explored the business savvy similarities of Jimmy and Warren Buffett, rather than the name/possible family connection.
Also, the Page One illustration of Jimmy in the WSJ is based on how he looked about 15 years ago when he still had a little hair on top!.... :-?

Looks like Jimmy is going to fit right in with Warren. I think it was last year when Jimmy played a private party for Bill Gates and now Bill Gates is on the Board of Directors of Berkshire Hathaway.

Ms. Buffett has been a guest of the singer at performances. Her brother says he has never been to a Jimmy Buffett concert, but he has seen one on TV.
Jimmy's shows are on TV? Wow, I thought RM was good!

Unless my memory fails me miserably, and it often does, I believe "Live by the Bay" was broadcast on one of the cable channels many many years ago. Perhaps this is what they were referring to.

Maybe he meant the Today Show. Jimmy's been on at least 5 times that I can remember.

My wife inherited some money in 1989 (the same year Jimmy first bought Berkshire shares). I just figured out about how much it would be worth now if we had bought Berkshire shares. I think I want to cry or get drunk. Maybe both.

Jimmy Concerts on TV

Post by cudjoekey »

Jimmy was also on a now-defunct late-night show called ABC in Concert back in the early 1990's. It was a two-part series that included performances of 5 or 6 songs recorded with the full Coral Reefer Band at M'Ville Cafe in New Orleans. I remember that he played CILCIA, Cheeseburger, Vampires, Mummies & the Holy Ghost, Fruitcakes and possibly a few others.

The show also included snipets of Jimmy walking around the French Quarter telling stories of his time in NO. I specifically remember that he showed the apartment where he lost his virginity (no, I am not kidding), the river bank where he woke up passed out and the Verdi Marte.

I know that I have it on videotape somewhere. I am going to have to look for it tonight!

I have that show in the French Quarter somewhere too. I think it was on A&E. I also remember Jimmy talking about Elvis and King Creole.

That's the way they do all of their pics in the WSJ...kind of a dot/print approach. They went so far back for that pic, they should have just left the moustache on! :o :D
