Hi Guys! On June 30th, I'll be heading to Bangalore, India for 5 weeks on business. Have any of you been there before? Can you advise on what are must sees and what are things I should stay clear of? Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Mark was supposed to be coming home a couple of weeks ago for a few days, then going to Dublin. I haven't heard from him since before I went to Hawaii so I don't know for sure if he's in Dublin.

My MIL has been to India twice in two years. I'll ask her what she did there. She's friends with the Prime Minister of tourism so I'm sure she'll have some insight.

Never been there but have heard it's a fascinating place. I thought the India chapters were the best part of Twain's Following the Equator. There is some very interesting insight into the caste system and culture.
One thing I've always heard about traveling there, however, is to make sure you've got good (sealed) bottled water, use hand sanitizer, don't do ice and stay away from uncooked fruits and veggies (similar to several countries). You'll probably want to have some immodium and ciprofloxacin should you encounter some unkind intestinal bugs.
Ejoy the trip. Let us know what you do and how it goes!

I'll definitely second this. In my trip to a different part of the FSOTW, immodium was invaluable. Unless we wanted to spend BIG bucks (and I didn't want to), we ate local food. After about three weeks, just about everyone's digestive system rebeled for a couple of days, then settled back down. It happened again when we came home and had to readjust to western food. Eat some curry for me!
Hand sanitizer is a MUST.
If you want fresh fruit, stick with something you have to peel.
If you wear contacts, make sure you use bottled water with them, not tap water.
Not sure about how it is in India, but in many foreign countries the fire codes aren't what they are in the States. If you go to a club or other crowded place, make sure you know where the fire exits are. If there's only one way out (no emergency exits), you might want to think about going somewhere else....
Have fun!

Many to the tips listed are very good. One thing to remember is that even if your drink doesn't have ice in the glass when it is delivered to you that it may have had ice at one point.
The one thing that I have done throughout my travels around the world is to eat yogurt every morning. I find that this helps my stomach to handle most of the bugs that I'm likely to encounter.
Also, Delta is going to be starting service to Chennai shortly so there may be some introductory deals.

I'll be in Bangalore, which is in southern, India. If we're close by we should get together for lunch or something.

Awesome, where I am going is southern India also. Lunch would be a good idea, it would have to be on a weekend though.

I agree! I'll be working a boat load of hours during the week and will be working the night shift there so we're on the same time as our associates over here.. The first few days should be interesting..

Lets keep in touch through here and as time gets closer we'll try to figure something out!

Funny you should ask, I am getting them tomorrow. I heard that the malaria medication they give you can make you feel pretty weird. How are you doing since you got your shots??

I looked at a map online and its looks like you are going to be a little futher south than I am going to be. Hyderabad is north of Bangalore, about 400 miles according to the map I saw.

I opted to take the Typhoid medicine over getting the shot (big mistake!) I've been sick b/c of it all day

I have three more pills to take and then I start the malaria medicine... I was told the malaria med will cause scary scary nightmares

This should be interesting...
