Well....it's scalping to an extent... and its not. Basically he is giving tickets for a lower scalped price. Do give him credit though because he is not making a profit other than $5, he is only offering people lower priced scalped tickets for the people who wish to buy tickets at scalped prices.

Actually what drives up ticket prices is more people wanting to go see Jimmy than there are tickets available....

People like NYCPort aren't contributing... he's not scalping... he's merely assisting others in getting tickets that have already been purchased by scalpers BEFORE they get to the local scalpers and get marked up even more. He's trying to beat the system as it were.

I know Matt and he's trying to help. If you don't want his help, then don't take him up on the offer.

I'm sorry but people trying to capatilze on tickets just makes me angry. And I don't care what you say...to my knowledge there is no magical ticketmaster for "brokers" They have to do the leg work MONTHS ahead of time and often flood the ticket buying systems. I recently read an article that said ONE broker had well over 100 people trying to buy tickets to U2...that's 800 tickets easy. They send people out to stand in lines, computer programs, and phone lines. You wonder why you can't get good buffett seats on line... well imagine a few brokers with computer programs automatically looking for tickets with autmated programs. What one fan is goign to beat those odds?

I get REALLY mad when I am fortinuate enough to get good seats to a buffett show (Charlotte 04) pay the face value...get to the venue and there are people selling 5th row floor seats for 20$ in the parking lot 5 minutes after the show started! (those tickets could have gone to the fan standing in line the day tickets went on sale) There we well over a few hundred seats empty at the Charlotte show..why was that?? Did those hundreds of people simply forget the show? No ...they were tickets bought by someone who thought they could make an extra buck and got stuck with the ticket. So many people buy tickets this way the artist and promoter think they sell out the venue to people who want to see the show... not 5000 people who want to see the show and 2000 broker tickets and thus think they can charge more for the tickets when 500 people don't show up for the night of the show.

Brokers perpetuate our dependence and reliance on them by providing the tickets we want so badly.

By the way... I'm sure Matt's a great guy... I PMed him just to see what he could do for a show for me. Because I'm sure the scaplers beat me to all the presale tickets for a show I wanted today...if his in gets me in to the show and the artists, mangaments groups won't do anything about it... i guess that's what I'm going to have to s*** up and do to see the concerts that I want to... To me that's sad.

Agreed, I hate brokers too, as most of us on this bored do. But NYCPORT isnt scalping. And yes, they work hard to get those tickets, and to be honest with you, I work hard to get mine too. It pays off. I have never gotten shut out for a concert, and I have gotten great seats most of the time. This year I am going to 4 shows and have nothing above the 20th row. Two shows I'm within the 10th row. Luck? Maybe, but I worked hard to get those tickets. Keeping up on presales, reading info on here, and learning how to play the Ticketmaster game like the back of my hand. Thats what it is, it's a game. You just have to get good at it, and most people arent, hence why they turn to brokers.

Exactly!! It's the game I'm p*** with...if people would stop playing the game it would become easier to get tickets and better seats. (people stop playing the game= people who want to go to concerts get off their butts and buy tickets the day of the show on sale instead of trying to make up their mind and paying scalpers 800 a ticket a week before the show because they can.)

You do HAVE GREAT LUCK... I ALWAYS check for information a head of time (I start check Buffettnews weekly about Jan. for dates) etc. I think there was only once concernt I've been to in the past 10 years or so that I didn't buy tickets the day they went on sale...sometimes crappy seats...sometimes ok. I love the infamous outlet centers that report that "their computers go down." I had that happen a few years ago and I was the only one to get tickets.

If I can get to see Jimmy with out selling a kidney, well, I'll do it. Not every person can spend time in line on line to secure seats. I will try almost anyting to see Jimmy up close.

I actually thought most brokers got the really good seats by buying season tickets- they make a killing on Buffett and the other big shows and just eat the cost on the rest- it doesn't matter who the artist is, someone wants to sit close!

I did do this for myself because while I don't like the system either, it ain't gonna change. So I use it too. I'm lucky enough to be able to afford tickets up front when I can't get them myself. And if this whole process saves me some money, great.
The only thing I can be accused of is asking you guys to help me pay to get the access which I'm glad to share, and in the process I hope to save you a money too.
So far I think I've spent about 3 hours checking and responding to requests in the last 24hrs.
And trust me if everybody who has asked for tickets actually buys them I still will be paying the lions share.

For reasons I can not explain, there is a very open attitude towards using scalpers by Parrotheads. Part of it can be attributed to JB's appeal within the rich, white suburban demographic. There is a lot of disposable income within that group and not a lot of free time. So they start calling the scalpers "brokers" and never realize the damage they've done to the concert industry.

And for less than I can eat at Wendys for, too. What's the big deal? It's only $5, which beats the heck out of $50-$100 from brokers.
