This cd is great! I practly begged for this cd for 3 months before Christmas. I knew that I was going to get it, but I didnt want to wait, especily since Tin Cup Chalace is on it! But my evil kin who had so generously gotten this secrade cd for me for Christmas, would not let me buy this before Christmas! Can you believe this unhumanitary action!!!

A1A Da Best

Post by SOASOAS »

The B side of A1A is my favorite LP side of all time.

Yeah ... I said LP* ....

*LP: noun. jargon. def: mid twentieth century term refering to phonograph record played at a revolution speed of 33 1/3 r.p.m.

(Trivia question: How many grooves does a LP record have? One.)

A-1-A

Post by Summervillian »

It's my favorite. "Tin Cup Chalice", "Migration","Tryin' to Reason With Hurricane Season"," A Pirate Looks At Forty", and "Presents to Send You" are absolutely great. Once, while in a small hotel bar on a Sunday night while things were slow, I talked the bartender into puttin' A-1-A in the CD player. I had her crank it up while I enjoyed my favorite beverages. Somewhere during "A Pirate Looks at 40" she said "All these songs are about getting drunk."

Amazing how everyone agrees with this.... unlike his new "stuff!!"

I wish I still had my original LP.....How I listened to it over and over and over and over and over......you get the picture!!

I'm 24 years of age (25 in two weeks :o ) and have been a parrothead for seven of them. I must admit, the newer stuff grabbed my immediate attention. But as I started to fill out my tape collection, I eventually bought A1A. When I played it for the first time, I didnt think a whole lot about it. It was about a month later that the album as a whole started to grow on me. Now, it ranks up there with the rest of em. If you have the type of personality to get into any of Jimmy's music, getting into all of it doesnt take that much discipline. I give A1A four out of five stars. Banana Wind still gets my vote for Jimmy's strongest album.

In my opinion: A1A is the absolute best Jimmy Buffett album ever!! I love it. I just can't believe "Nautical Wheelers", "Door Number Three" and "Tin Cup Chalice" are all on one album. :D

Ever hear that clip of Dylan and Baez doin a cover of "Pirate" live? They recognize great music when they heard it. It's over at CoBo.

I love this album. It has some awesome songs. It's the only Jimmy Buffett album that I don't have on CD yet, only on tape. Hopefully that'll change soon, I'm still looking. A Pirate Looks At 40 and Tryin' to Reason With Hurricane Season are both great tracks, but this albums doesn't have any bad tracks.

A1A. Incredible album full of the purest JB music. Every song is a classic that stays with you from then on. This album really did put him on the musical map and IMO serves as the foundation for everything since. All the best stuff since owes something to A1A - a phrase/chord/rhythm/lyric/something. This one ties all the greatest of the JB mystique together in a package you can listen to again and again and again.

If you don't have a copy, buy one now and learn about your Parrothead roots.

This is his best album ever. A few weeks ago someone asked in a posting what is Jimmys best 1-2 punch or 2 best songs in a row on an album. Well this is the best 11 songs in a row.

Another one of his albums that I think is similar to A1A, or you might say A1A is similar to it. The album is White Sport Coat and A Pink Crustacean which came out before A1A.
