Frozen Sour Cream?

Post by ToplessRideFL »

This morning I am faced with the "day after the keets graduation party clean up" and I have a question...

Can you freeze sour cream?

While most of the food for the party is gone... I had made a few extra dips just in case... They were not used (stayed in the fridge) and I hate to throw them out.

2 specifically are onion dip (sour cream and onion soup mix) and chili con queso. (Velveeta and Hormel chili)

Anyone have any luck freezing dips? I can't see why not...but I have opinions at my house ranging from..."geesh..what are we talking $5? Toss it"... to "Yuk".... to "there are starving children somewhere in the world who would kill to have your onion dip!"

I appreciate your feedback!

This answer came from a cooking site:

You can freeze almost anything; you just may not like it when it thaws. Sour cream is a case in point.

Sour cream breaks down and separates when frozen and thawed. You can stir it back together, but it won't have the texture you expect if you put a dollop on your baked potato or tortilla, or use it in a dressing or dip.

When I worked in Seafood we Froze Cottage Cheese
So I think sour cream would work just be prepared to dump it

IE freeze it and thaw it for movie night at home not For Guests
also If it does not work you were going to toss it anyway right?

( yes I do live alone now that you ask) :D

And if the texture isn't what you like, try putting it in a blender for a few seconds.
Good luck!

Won't work, been in the restaurant business for years, it will seperate and the result will be a gelatinous goo. Trying to blend it will be a complete failure. Don't be so cheap  have some friends over tonight, feed them the dip, drink some beers, and take it easy at work tomorrow.

it is much easier for me to just go at the cooking in waves on the weekend, then live off the leftovers during the week.

I am not a good leftover person ... I throw out rather than freeze .... not fussed on food that has been frozen ...

Only things you will find frozen in my freezer is the meat, icecream and a bag of frozen peas ...... only vege I eat that comes frozen - everything else has gotta be FRESH!!!

actually you should always have a bag of frozen peas or beans or something in your freezer for those unexpected sprains.

Actually the only left overs I like are the ones that I ut into the fridge, 1 or 2 days old...the flavors really marinate in. I can't think of anything from the freezer that is any good old...oh wait, there is my bottle of Jose.
