So after spending the weekend down in NC visiting with my nephew I'm seriously thinking about moving down there in next year. My company has an office in Raleigh and I could possibly transfer down there. My nephew is 15 months and I hate that I'm not there to see him grow-up. My brother and SIL have been working on getting me down there for a few months now. I fell in love with the area and could definitely see myself living down there. Now I need to sit down and figure out if this is a move that will work for me. decisions, decisions.. I hate making decisions!

One of my business associates moved from one of the Boston suburbs down to Raleigh last year. He and his family absolutely love it there. The cost of living is so much less that he was able to buy a much larger home. From the Raleigh airport, he can fly most anywhere. The traffic is not nearly as bad. The only thing he misses is being so close to the water. Of course I didn't hear him complaining much when he was playing golf in January as opposed to shovelling his driveway.

Just be prepared for all us Southerners to laugh at your accent. :P

Oh yeah, and be prepared to give up all pro ball games and focus on ACC Basketball. :pirate:

There is no doubt about it that it's a helluva lot cheaper to live down there. I've been looking at townhomes and I could actually afford one unlike up here! I probably won't move until after the first of the year but I'm about 90% certain that it will happen. I want to pay off a few more things and have a nice little cushion to fall back on before I make the move. My accent? sweetie have you not listened to me?!?! I don't have an accent.. I've lived all over so I actually have a messed up accent.. lol  Give up BASEBALL?!!?!? Hell no! I'll travel down to ATL to visit you and watch the Braves play! And I've already been raised to be a UNC fan and not a DUKE OR NCSU fan.. so I think I'm safe there! :P

Raleigh-Durham is a great area. Because of the Major Colleges (Duke,NC State, Carolina), there is a lot of night life. Good music scene. ACC sports, Double and Triple A baseball. and, if you start missing the north too much, there is the Carolina Hurricanes Hockey organIzation (that's if the labor issues are settled)

and you have the beach one way, the mountains the other if you want to get away.

I"m researcing moving to S. Carolina now. I love the Outer Banks but there aren't that many year round jobs and the pay is low. So I"m considering Coastal S. Carolina. I teach so I can work most anywhere even if it's for a bit lower pay. Husband does commercial refrigeration and hvac so he needs to be near some industry or commercial buildings that hire union mechanics. Hospitals, schools, government buildings, etc. would work.

Nightlife in Durham? :o :D Good one!

Lived in both Carolina's for many years....I like ATL a whole lot better! But if you have to do it, be close to the coast.
