Folks here keep asking me why on earth I'd want to move to Florida. I grew up in SoCal and I love our beaches, but they are NOTHING like Florida's. And I don't think FL has nearly as many freeway shootings.
I just tell them the truth. I know in my heart I am meant to do something else with my life, the one thing that touches my soul. And I think Florida will help me get to that place. Besides, I really have more friends in FL and the southeast than I do in Cali now. And I can always get my Cali friends to come visit.

I really like San Diego (Don't tell Lightning Bolt) But the rest of SoCal....... A little too much crime for me. Go where your heart leads you.

I like SD too, but it has gotten way too crowded for my taste. It takes forever to get anywhere if you don't know the area.
I loved Newport Beach. We'd get a place on the beach every summer, it was great. But again, too crowded and too expensive. And yeah, the crime here sucks, as does the traffic.

ok . .here's my story . .
I was a tax accountant at a major refinery in Memphis . .one day . .I did the Norman Paperman thing. . literally stood up and said . . " I will not do this anymore . "
next day gave my 2 weeks notice . . .took my profit sharing $ $ . .and took off for a year . .
during that time I traveled via AmTrak all the way to Seattle to see my keets . .and down to New Orleans to have some fun . .
came back and enrolled in college for the first time . . at age 48 . .got a job at FedEx slingin packages ( and bigger ) into a can . .
jumpseated to Tampa one time to visit a friend and ran into an old co-worker that was a manager in Tampa. .
" I think I need to work here " , I said . .he said " you'll have a job when you get here" . . only it will be part time . .20 hours a week . .
I came to Tampa with a suitcase . .and very little money
and found paradise . .
. . .trust me . .
you will never regret it . . . .
I've never had a bad day since I've been here . .

Crowded? Ya FLA is getting pretty crowded too. As a matter of fact, forget anything good I said about Florida. Y'all better just stay where you are

If you can handle listening to DKD whine about the lack of power. I love the power loss. I think of it as forced family fun time.
Just bring your gas powered blender.

There's ANOTHER FINE POINT...
Been through the Hurricanes as a child in Florida and numerous Tropical Storms... Been through Numerous Tornado's...
I'll take a Hurricane anytime... at least you can see them coming for several days
NOT AT ALL TO DOWNPLAY THE DESTRUCTION FROM LAST SEASON

Ya know... so far I'm seeing a connection here... all the Floridians in here have the same common thread...
They all just up and left for Florida to improve/change their lives

Without a whole lot of forethought on the matter..
