Daughters piercing

Post by A1Jay »

From parents of a 10 yr old ..... she wants her ears pierced.

I have no problem;.... I was just curious as to what is the norm ..........
Oh so many things I can’t remember
And way too many things I can’t forget
What time does church begin? Tell the priest I’m checking in
I want to cleanse my soul so I can do it again and again and again and again

I got my ears pierced on my 8th Birthday.

Granted, it was with a frozen potato and dental floss on a needle that they heated over a zippo to sterilize...

(And you all wondered why I'm messed up!)

Oh, Quint says it's hard to get a piercing when you're locked in a basement until you're 40... but that wasn't a poll option. ;)

Wait until she makes up her own mind (not that there's anything wrong with not). I just feel that getting one's ears pierced is a rite of passage and can be a very fond memory. :D

My daughter had hers done 4 times..Until she was 13, she kept taking them out because it hurt...I told her I would not do it again until she was ready and mature enough to take care of them herself ...

at 13, she finally kept them in and took care of them.......

I got my ears pierced when I was about twelve--by my sister, with ice cubes and a needle. And we WONDER why I have "issues" w/ my sister

Well, I wasn't 'allowed' to have them as a teen - so I guess that kinda influences my vote.. I'd say no younger than 16.

Of the girls I know that had them done when they were babies - I've never heard of a problem.............but I think it's a great "bonding" experience as a teenager to go with her Mom or her Dad. But if they're older - they really do have to be mature enough to keep the piercings clean otherwise the results could be disasterous.

That is the same with mine. Both girls had them done at the Dr's office with no problems.

All three of my daughters got their ears done for their 5th birthday present and we have had no troubles with care issues.

However, they have been told my cold dead body had better be in the ground before they come home with anything else pierced

I'm glad you clarified EARS!!

I let my daughter decide when she was ready. She was about 5 when she asked and wanted earrings. We went ahead and let her and she was a total trooper! It was very much a rite of passage for her, and I always told myself when she felt she was ready and understood the process and care of having earrings, then she could do it.

This is just my opinion, but piercing one's body is a choice. Not real crazy about parents having babies' piercings done. JMHO though.

Unfortunately, I can't even wear earrings as I'm allergic to most jewelry (don't really wear watches, necklaces either). The few piercings I've tried didn't work out so hot.

My parents refused to let me get mine done as well ...
until I was 17 and said if I couldn't get them done that spring (at least 6 weeks before the prom  ) then when I was 18, I was gonna find the sceeviest place available and have them done. :o My mother relented and took me in early March! :) I vowed not to do the same with my daughter and when she asked for them at 4 almost 5 I took her in as a 5th B-day/pre-schhol "graduation" celebration. The only provoiso was if the first one hurt  she still had to have the second one pierced!

My daughter got hers done when she was 4. She freaked when we tried to turn them and they closed up. She had them redone on her 8th Birthday and has had no problems at all. She's 10 now and has more earbobs than my wife.

I got mine done when I was 25 - and only at the request of a man (and he promised diamond studs - that never arrived :x )

Even at that age - I had to take my mother with me - and hyperventilated at the thought - and now I cannot remove the earings at all without nearly fainting ...

SO I am not a fan at all
