Nissan Pavilion - questions

Post by jmcgonig »

Hey, I haven't been to Nissan for a concert yet, usually went to Merriwether and I got screwed last year... Anyway...

What time can you get into the parking lot at Nissan?

Any special or weird rules to be aware of?

I'd just like to avoid rush hour, grill a few things and have a drink or two before starting the fun!

Thanks,
-Jim

If you want to avoid rush hour, I recommend leaving at 10:00am.

It is a wonderful tailgate!!! Arrive early!!! I think we were there last year about noon. You'll want to walk around the lot - tons of stuff going on. All drinks in cups - no bottles or cans showingThe stairs are HELL.

Great tailgate. My one suggestion would be to make sure you save some stuff for after the show. The worst part about Nissan is that there is only one road in/out. So it generally takes a good two hours (depending on where you're parked, obviously) to get out of the parking lot. So the last few times we've gone, rather than sitting in the car and getting frustrated, we just pulled the coolers back out, re-lit the grill and started all over. It's much more fun to spend that time tailgating with friends than honking your horn and exchanging "we're #1" signs  with other drivers trying to get out.

That's what we did in Columbia back in Feburary after the concert. I'd rather wait with some food, beer, and friends than wait in the car bumper to bumper

Do you think it'll be hard to get a ticket down there at a reasonable price?

It hasn't been in the past. There always seem to be people walking around selling extras. We've had friends even get tickets at below face in the lot.

My only concern is that Nissans website says you need a ticket to get into the parking lot, is this true? I went last year but can't remember having to show my ticket.

Although the signs do say that, you don't need a ticket to get in the parking lot. As for Merriweather, Nissan is a much better venue to see a Buffett show. The parking lot is 10x better and the police/security are much more laid back. We arrived at Nissan last year around noon and they were CHARGING $20 to get in to the parking lot that early. I've never had that happen before. Of course, we didn't think twice about paying it. We plan on arriving around noon again this year.

Construction of the bar begins this weekend!!!

What everyone says is true. I've been going to Nissan for shows since it opened (I believe I was at the second or third concert held there about 9 or 10 years ago). Buffett is always fun.

Get there EARLY. Rush-hour traffic on I-66 is colossal. Gates usually open at noon. All adult beverages should be in opaque containers. Grills are allowed. Be prepared to continue tailgating about an hour+ after the show as traffic back to I-66 is dreadful.

Fins Up Northern Virginia. . . and remember all you lovely female Parrotheads you can't spell Manassas without MAN-ASS-es!

Thanks for the info! I'm planning on leaving home about noon so I think I should miss all of the traffic untill I get there. Just have to make sure I've got plenty of lime :D

The first time I went to Nissan back in 2003, they actually did check for tickets before you entered the lot. And that was the "VIP" $20 lot that opened at noon. I went last year also and don't recall being asked for tickets. That was the regular lot however around 4PM when traffic was backed up and they probably didn't care if you had a ticket or not. I'd say it's a tossup. The tailgating is great though and as mentioned, the hill is brutal, especially after the show. It's always fun watching drunks avoid the steps and try to run down the hill, especially when 95% of them don't make it without injury.. heh

I was there shortly after noon last year and didn't have to show my ticket. The hill is hell!!! The stairs are hell!!! As we were walking down them last year, I turned to someone in my group and said....."we're in hell and it's nothing but stairs" :o

I've been to Nissan 3 times and we never had to show our tickets to get in the lot. The only complaint I have is that it's usually hot as hell when Buffett plays there.

If you are sitting on the lawn, walk around to the front, you can get to the lawn that way and avoid the big hill and the stairs. They don't check your tickets between the lawn and the 300 section.

Last time I tailgated at a Buffett show, we were the last ones to leave the parking lot, we had no trouble getting out then!

Have fun!!

So are grillls allowed or not. From the Nissan web page:

CONCERT TICKETS WILL BE REQUIRED FOR ADMISSION INTO THE PARKING LOTS.
NO ALCOHOL OR BARBECUE GRILLS ARE PERMITTED IN LOTS.
Wear Sunglasses/Hats, and apply Sunscreen.
Please remember your wallet/ID if you wish to purchase alcohol.
