Airbus Question
I am flying to India next month for my company and they are sending me coach on an Airbus plane...they say that its extremely roomy and nice, and coach is nothing to worry about on that type of plane. Has anyone flown coach on an airbus plane? What did you think about it??

Re: Airbus Question
Well, it's all a matter of inches...seats might be a couple inches wider and a few inches more leg room than others...but it's not like it's comparable to first class on another type plane, it's still coach.honeysucklevine wrote:I am flying to India next month for my company and they are sending me coach on an Airbus plane...they say that its extremely roomy and nice, and coach is nothing to worry about on that type of plane. BTW, hi Marlene! Been thinking about you and wondering what you've been up to.

if you go to http://www.seatguru.com and click on Lufthansa on the left side, you can see the setup. The pitch (31") is the same as Economy on the the United flights I've taken to Japan. It's a tight, fairly uncomfortable fit, I'm sorry to say.honeysucklevine wrote:I am flying Lufthansa....SchoolGirlHeart wrote:what airline?

Too bad about the seats though....I figured it wasn't all that they made it out to be. I booked a business class seat and they went back and changed it to a economy seat. Damn corporate America!

can you fly a different airline? United, maybe? They have an economy plus section on their 777's with 5 precious extra inches of legroom.honeysucklevine wrote:Awesome website, thanks for the link!!SchoolGirlHeart wrote:if you go to http://www.seatguru.com and click on Lufthansa on the left side, you can see the setup. Lufthansa's a good airline (going through Frankfurt, I'll bet).
Coach is coach no matter where in the world you are...not business or first class. I've been on several airbus planes. The long haul Airbus is a good plane and is similar to a 777 or 767 (not quite as cramped a feeling as a 747 can be but not that different, either). My approach to long-haul flights is drink water (don't get dehydrated), rest when you can, stretch before you get on the plane, and wander around a bit (but they frown on too much wandering around due to security). Also, always make sure your bags are checked correctly and be sure to have your name and home (as well as destination) address tagged on the bag(s).
Have a great trip!!

Thanks for the tips, this is the first time I have ever flown this far and I am a little apprehensive about it.

American got smart and pulled out a row or two of seats to give extra legroom but I don't fly them unless I have to. I can't seem to get anywere direct on AA from my usual departure airports. And I don't know if that leg room change was made on their international flights as well. Pretty much every other airline I've been on has been squished...other than Delta Song when I had the whole row in the front bulkhead to myself when flying back to Cali with the broken leg. It's too bad you weren't able to go business class, that sure would have helped.
I'm hanging in there...going thru PT now to see if I can avoid surgery on the leg...it was 3 months yesterday that the big break happened.
Not sure when I'll be back to ATL...kind of in limbo here but I'll let ya know as soon as I make some plans!

No sweat, it's easy. Look at it as an opportunity to sit still and read or listen to music for hours on end.honeysucklevine wrote:Yep your right, going through Frankfurt!

Bring reading material and music, and bring a set of foam earplugs, in case the crying baby is sitting near you.
If your legs tend to swell, buy a set of compression stockings to put on under your socks. One of the best purchases I ever made!
Dress in layers. I love the window seat, but it gets colder the longer the trip is, until they blast the heat....
Another great discovery: a polyester "wicking" T-shirt from a sporting goods store. I always get all clammy dragging my luggage, etc, through the airport, and then I sit in a wet shirt and I freeze. The wicking t-shirt keeps me dry and warm, or cool, as the case may be.
Do everything Q&S said; water, moving around, etc.
The best part? You'll never look at a New York to LAX trip as a long trip again....
Have a great trip!!

at least try to get a window seat. the last couple of times i've flown on A320's i've noticed the window seat is 21" wide, the middle seat is 20", and the aisle seat is only 19". granted you won't be flying on a 320 but it might hold true for the bigger airbus's too. at least you should check out the seating for the return trip. also check to see if there are specific rows with more leg room because of emergency exits. but be careful about sitting in exit rows or just in front of the exit row since the seat backs can't recline for safety reasons. the seatback can't recline and block the emergency evacuation path, same reason your tray table has to be stowed and carryons must fit completely under the seat in front of you..... write down the seat info including the model of airbus you're on A330, A340 etc. so you don't forget it... that way you might be able to sweet talk them into giving you a choice seat for the flight home...
I'd feel bad for you, but I have no soul.....

also i tell people to sit as far forward in airbus's has they can get. the ass end of the plane tends to wag side to side especially in turbulence. holds true for all planes but the Airbus's are worse than Boeings.
for the record i didn't have anything to do with the design of the autopilot, only designed the navigation computers. the frogs designed the autopilot and that's why the plane wags....

I don't know what we'd do without you, Charlie...you are indeed our resident airplane guru.
That reminds me...you need to get out to SoCal. I have someone you need to meet, you two could talk planes all night long...

does he/she have tons of cash they would be willing to invest in a new plane design?Brown Eyed Girl wrote:That reminds me...you need to get out to SoCal. I have someone you need to meet, you two could talk planes all night long...
