nderstandably you are all upset. But you all sound like a bunch of gutter cats. You complain, you gritch, you complain some more. Have you done anything about it? Have you gone to http://www.calypso.com/ufotts where they are trying to get a US ban on scalping? and enforce states that have scalping laws? Have you gone to http://members.aol.com/ladyofthewaters1 where they are taking your information and getting scalping ads removed from the internet? and send your complaint to your state representative? Okay, okay - you have a legitimate gripe. You've said more than enuf. Now do something. Make a difference.

Here we go again with the preaching. Give the rest of us a break! All hail the hippy! End ticket scalping, make love not war.....GIVE IT UP! I think ticket scalping in the United States is so MINOR that you really need to focus on something a little bit more meaningful. Get over what the other people bs about on this board.

Eric,
I understand your frustration, but maybe if you paid more attention to how well you articulate, and express yourself in writing, you could get a better job and pay the broker's price if it was that important to go to the show. Hippies can only rule if they express themselves in a meaningful way....

The point is not who can AFFORD to pay the brokers. The point is where are these low-lifes getting their tickets from originally. Those tix should be sold to the fans to begin with, NOT to broker scum! Scalping is ILLEGAL in Massachusetts, yet somehow, the brokers are left to do whatever they want.

I wasn't commenting on ticket scalping, but rather the whole "screw you" thing. I just think that everyone is a little too verbally abusive, perhaps for a lack of any better way to express themselves. As for brokering tickets being legal, right or wrong, ticket broker businesses are perfectly legal as long as the ticket broker is selling tickets for venues out of state. There is no limit on the price that an out-of- state broker can assign to the ticket. As many people at these sights know, I purchased my tickets through a broker because I was shut out of the Ticketmaster sales. It was worth it to me to pay the higher price because I really wanted to see the show. Fortunately I foung a broker who was fairly reasonable and I didn't have to mortgage the farm, and the end result is that I have tickets. I am sorry if you misunderstood me, or took offense to anything that I said. My only word of advice here is for everyone to relax a bit. What used to be a fun Web sight is turning into a battle field, and that is not what we are supposed to be about. PHins up to you Carribean Soul, and to Eric....I hope you both have a wonderful summer....Peace

n response to "You Drive Me Crazy" and anyone else who thinks scalping is MINOR.
The knickname "Hippy" was given to me by my friends, long before the internet was even thought of. I am the co-founder of UFOTTS (Unified Fans Opposed to Ticket Scalping). I am the 41 year old mother of four young girls who keep me busy enough without working to legislate scalping. I wear old moccasins with holes in the bottom because they are too comfy to get rid of, I have worn tie dye for the last 20 years. I drink Coronas with double lime and have done so forever. I have been a Jimmy Buffett fan since 1973. I am very laid back and have a live and let live attitude. "I enjoy this life that I'm living."
But I get very impassioned when someone tries to RIP ME OFF. The scalping thing is not minor. It is a billion dollar industry and growing every day. I have the money to pay $165 for a $35 lawn ticket at Pine Knob - I REFUSE. If JB said I am charging $165 for a ticket I would pay it. But not to some scumbags who sit back and make money off of the hard work of others. It is against my personal morals and I believe the morals of most people.
So I hooked up with a real nice gal out of Atlanta Georgia, Lady of the Waters, and together WE ARE going to make a difference. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but we are. There is strength in numbers and the more people who join us, the sooner it will get done.
My thanks to Eric and Caribbean Soul for singing from the choir.

To Lisa:
You need to get educated. Scalping is not legal as long as you post from out of State. The Internet is regulated by the State law the the event is taking place in. Scalping is illegal in 20 states with two more passing new laws. Brokers, however, are legal in many states and are allowed to charge a marginal mark up, hence your lower fee. E-Bay has a whole list of the laws and who they allow to post and who they do not. Very glad you went through a "broker" and not a "scalper"

Ruth,
First, I am quite educated, thank you. Second, the broker that I purchased from has a lovely office located directly across the street from my state's capitol building. Our attorney general has to pass it each day on the way to work. I don't know what this business that I patronize has to do with the internet regulations...I wasn't talking about internet sales...kindly use your "education" and reread my last post.
I am very sorry if you have some problem with me, as that was not my goal. I was merely trying to show another side to this ongoing controversy. If you feel that purchasing your tickets in the way that I did is wrong, and you choose a different route, then I commend you for standing up for what you believe in, but with all due respect, I deserve equal tolerance from you. Perhaps you should ask yourself why I was unable to devote a huge amount of time to buying tickets at face value. I can assure you that my reason for this will surprise you.
Undoubtedly, as an educated woman you can also understand that I have causes that I am very passionate about, and that I use my energy to support. At this time, ticket brokerage is not on my agenda. It is clear though that if more people like you, and Hippy, and Eric get on the ticket sale band-wagon and effect some changes, then we will all benefit. Hopefully, you in turn will someday benefit from some of the changes that I help to effect for those issues that I am passionate about. Why don't we all stop the bickering, and accept that we all have different points of view. If we all take the time to maximize on each others strengths and accept each others weaknesses, we could have a much happier society. There is room for everyone in the Circle...Peace, and PHins up to you Ruth, and have a RAGTOP day....

Lisa, I apologize. You took me all wrong. I highly commend you and your reasons for buying the way you did. I applaud you for buying from a broker and not a scalper (big difference between the two).
I have no problem with you or what you have done. Personally from what I have read on the boards, you have spent more time than most trying to buy tickets at face value. In fact the time for fans to buy tickets at face value was an average of ten (10) minutes.
Anytime you have a cause you need help with please post same and any time I have I'll be more than happy to help you in any way that I can.
PHins^^ and have a fruitful day.

rive Me Crazy, you raise some valid points. However, it is not the general Joe Blow that is putting the ticket systems out of wack. And we could get into a really involved discussion, however your analogy compares a durable good (house) to a non-durable good (concert ticket). Aside from that I refer you to the article as submitted by Buffalo Bill at http://www.oag.state.ny.us/press/report ... l_text.htm It is very long but can more quickly answer ALL questions. Including why prime tickets go on sale just before the concert. Why ticket scalping is NOT a victimless crime. Moreover, it states in conclusion: "This report is intended to shine light on an underground economy that persists because of a general lack of knowledge of the degree of the criminal activity involved. It is not just ticket scalping -- it is bribery and tax evasion on a grand scale. In addition to violations of law, it involves inequity such as the massive diversion of tickets to insiders and people with connections, whether as a result of fraudulent activity or otherwise. " There are very informing footnotes also. If you read this report - or even just skim through it you will see that No you are not the same as the "scalper".

OK. I still think that the attack on the scalper is a little ridiculous. But hear me out. I have purchased tickets for shows that I planned on going to and something came up and I could not go, or I've bought an extra two for friends who may have backed out. Whatever the reason, I have turned around and sold them to the highest bidder. I have not set the price of (for example) $100 for a $50 ticket. I am not going to wait around forever to get that $100 either. BUT, if someone offers it, I'm gonna take it.
Yeah, I think it sucks that there are these brokers that some people claim are charging a marginal mark up. That's bs, it's alot more than marginal.
Think of it like this. Two weeks ago you saw some property go on sale for $100,000 for 10 acres. You buy it. Then in July, a developer approaches you and offers $500,000 for those ten acres. Are you going to turn him down? I don't think so. Now take E-bay. As long as someone does not set a reserve for 4 tickets at $400 bucks, sky is the limit. They may get $150 maybe $500.
Point being this, not all people who sell their tickets at profit, do it for a living. I never went out and got in line at 5am and buy ten seats on the intention of turning around and selling them. But I am not gonna take a hit, nor am I gonna refuse, an increased offer. You may not agree, but I am not the same "scalper" as the broker or the guy who buys everything and will only take a 400% mark up.
So tell me, why am I wrong?

I, like you, could and would pay $165 or whatever the FACE VALUE on the ticket was... but I will NOT give the mark-up to the brokers or scalpers. (I'll listen on RadioMargatitaville before I do that.) I read the NY report and I wish the MA Attorney General would look into doing a similar investigation as well. How the agencies get their tickets before the general public is nothing short of criminal!!!

Caribbean Soul: Thank you so much for the encouragement. Sometimes it so much easier to give up than "Keep it up and Fight a Good Fight". If you have not visited our sites (links up top) please do so. If you have some extra time, we have a big job ahead of us and can use a little help. Again, your words of encouragement are much appreciated. I do not have the MA law on my site yet, but it will be forthcoming. There is a link to Cornell University where you can search the law in any state.

Yor're most welcome! I have 'signed up' at the ufotts sites as well as the original e-petition of a Jenifer (AKA HemisphrDancer@aol) AND sent in a hard copy petition started by a guy by the screen name Hemisphere Dancer over on the M-ville web board. (Odd coincidence, calling for that Twighlight Zone music!)
You are absolutely correct in that it WOULD have been easier to knuckle under and go the scalper route... but 'the good fight' is MUCH more satisfying!
