From someone who has never gone to a buffett concet I have no problem at all with the list he's palying. I can't wait to go.

and I'd rather have the LTC crap and 5 o clock somewhere cut out of the setlist then the covers be axed.

I do agree though, would be nice to get back to the "good stuff". :)

Maybe they are afraid their Daddy will put them on a jet ski and set them on fire. :o :o

You've got a good point tho, Bill. Maybe if Jimmy just said, "It's this way because I said so." we'd all shut up about it.
I remembered something listening to the Great Woods concert tonight. For everyone complaining about the concerts, go listen to You Had To Be There. I'm paraphrasing because I haven't listened to it in a while, but there is a point in the show that the crowd starts yelling out requests. I think it's right before God's Own Drunk.

Anyway, Jimmy finally has enough and says something to the effect of; "OK that's enough - this is not your 8-track. This is MY SHIP and I’m gonna run this goddamn thing”

So there you go - straight from the horse's mouth. That was 25 years ago and nothing has changed.

I've never seen Mac and Peter look so bored as when they merely went through the motions on Margaritaville.
But, hey, it's now a brand, so it has to stay in...

I loved Jimmy's statement last night after he had a " miss " on one of the songs. .

" what you see, is what you get . . ."

and that's good enough for me . . ! !

At the Mohegan Sun show didn't he say something along the lines of "I always thought mistakes came with the price of the ticket."

I love when folks presume things.... why would that song be any different than any other song for them?

BTW in my highly unscientific poll from last night, when I looked back at the crowd during the "standards" (Margaritaville, CIP etc) there was certainly no lack of enthusiasm.

Of course, I don’t expect them to sit down and frown the entire time those songs are being played. But think of it this way: Pretend he didn’t play them. I wonder if people would start riots in the parking lot afterwards. I wish, just for one show at the least, Jimmy would drop one of the flowing: M’ville, CIP, Fins or Volcano just as a science experiment to see what happens.

If I really sit down and think about it now, it’s not about those same songs he plays every last night he performs, but the songs he doesn’t play that could take their spots in the set. Let’s face it, Jimmy really neglects his own catalogue of music big time by playing those same songs (his own and the covers) so often.

Would anyone reading this complain if, say:

CIP was replaced with Cowboy in the Jungle
Fins was replaced with Treat her Like a Lady
Volcano was replaced with My Lovely Lady

And, God forbid:

Margaritaville was replaced with Migration!

Who would complain about these underrated (plus other) classics coming out of the woodwork after years of exile, replacing the over-use-of-horns arrangements of played into the ground songs?

Lots of people. To suggest otherwise is naive.

People still respond enthusiastically to those songs, and as long as they do why would they not get played?

It only make sense as an entertainer to play what works and what appeals to the broadest base of fans, not to cater your show to an unsatisfiable niche audience that will always find something new to b**** about anyway.

I can honestly tell you, that if I paid $150 for a ticket to see Buffett for the first time and DIDN'T hear those songs, I'd be one p*** off momma. (Someone else a few months ago made a similar point but I don't think they used the bad words). Those are the songs that got most of us into Jimmy in the first place. I wouldn't want to deprive any Buffett virgin of those experiences. It just wouldn't be right.

I agree...hearing those other songs would be fabulous! But Jimmy has a LARGE audience to cater to...we're obviously not all going to be happy. And we're not the ones making the setlist. Jimmy is. That is really what it comes down to.

Every artist has their "staple" songs. Jimmy just happens to have A LOT more of them than other artists.
