You mean Underoos aren't cool on a 30 year old woman and it's wrong to sleep with a night light?
Perhaps I've shared too much.

Its okay to have assumptions, but I'd base them on informed opinions not idealism. There's no way to have a meaningful discussion if all of your opinions are based on how you wish things would be, rather than how they really are. Otherwise we might as well argue the color of the dress the tooth fairy wears.
At some point you should try to get an internship at a label or management company. I think it would be an eye-opening experience for you.

Believe me, I would think the same thing, but I do in fact know of catalogues that have sold. Like I’ve said, Elton John bought his stuff from MCA in the early 90s. ELTON JOHN!! Who, it goes without saying, is so just a little more popular, and dare I say it, more successful than Jimmy. If they gave up his masters for a good sum of $, I don’t see how Jimmy’s stuff can be bought from them.

What, you mean that (like the Stones say) “You can’t always get what you want” ?
This is all just my opinion, I don’t get why life lessons like this and “Life isn’t fair” have to be woven in.

The Grateful Dead (may they R.I.P.), the Allmans, Pearl Jam, DMB, DBTs, Bob Dylan and many other groups play completely different setlists from night to night without feeling obligated to play their hits but Buffett does and has said so (particularly regarding "Margaritaville") on many an occasion. Still, it would be a refreshing change to see him and the Reefers mix things up a bit but I believe it would take something like the Nawlins "Salty Piece of Land" type setting to bring this to fruition. Maybe one day and it'll all be filmed for release on DVD sometime in the not so distant future.
As for the remasters, far too many other artists (many of a lesser stature than Buffett) have had their complete catalogues remastered and re-released for me to believe the same thing couldn't happen with Buffett's back catalog.

I can't speak for Lee, but I think it's more that the little ones learn about Buffett by hearing Fins, M'Ville, Volcano, CIP, etc. etc. It's nice to know those are a "sure thing" when bringing them to their first shows.
Jimmy Buffett Tickets for Family = $200+
Parking at venue = $20+
Doing "Fins" with your daughter for the first time = Priceless

Totally ironic but interesting... from a recent interview with Art Alexakis:
But when he performs, Alexakis won't shortchange fans on popular hits.
"I've always kind of been a little skeptical about bands that won't play their hits. That's really arrogant to me as a music fan. I do want to hear obscure songs, but like most people, I want to hear the hits, so we always play them. I think it's pretty well-balanced."

I saw a quote from Neil Young to the effect that he "wasn't Jimmy Buffett" and was going to play what he wanted and not just re-hash (pun intended) the hits. Guess that is why i have not seen Neil since 1973

All of the above mentioned bands' fans are fans because of the music.... that is not the case with many of Jimmy's "fans", in my opinion.

Parrot Monkey,
Jimmy gives YOU some of his older and lesser known songs at every show.
It's called
BALANCE!
He's done a dang fine job keeping all those plates a twirling!
It sure was good to hear
He Went To Paris last night. It was special. If he never plays
False Echoes or
Dreamsicle or STEAMER

at a concert, we'll all get over it.
Enjoy yourself! If I ever get tired of hearing the same old songs, I'll quit listening to ALL of the shows ALL of the time.
Sorry, Balcony Girl! I usally don't do this. I know where you are coming from.

I havent read the whole thread....but I have no issues with the content of last nights show..... I thought Jimmy was ON! I loved hearing a few old surprises, was thrilled not to hear Trippin Billies and was only cussing RM during the intermission when they lost the feed!

Sheeesh!

It's purple! C'mon Lee, I thought EVERYONE knew that...
Ooops, sorry for the hi jack!

I'll just go back to my corner now, singing that little ditty by the Eagles...
Get Over It...
There's nothing wrong with WISHING for what Jimmy would play, we all have done that. But I think we've established what the reality is...many times over in fact.

I know, that’s why I wrote “music” not masters there. I still thought it was a good thing to compare the Jimmy situation to, as the publishing rights are equally important.

Ok, maybe I used the wrong word and/or your taking it to seriously here, it’s just misleading that’s all. You really don’t need to keep nailing me with that quote.
Something inside me tells me that Jimmy isn’t really the Jimmy we all think he is. I recall a few months back when someone posted a link to photocopies of the packet that’s given to concert venues before he performs there. I know all artists can be like that, but man were there some demanding things in there, and I’m not talking about how much Pepsi is needed in the hospitality room or any of that. Before anyone tells me “Welcome to the music industry” of anything of that nature, just know that my view of Jimmy drastically changed after doing the research I did.
But, it’s not like I’m perfect or is anyone on here. I don’t really have anything against Jimmy, I love his music and know he’s a great performer, but so things about him just are not true that he wants you to think are.
