It ticks me off that "technically" I am labled a generation yer, but I don't understand them either! I think I should be allowed to mingle with the xers. Anybody who remembers the 80's should be.

One thing I read said Gen X was people born in the 60's and 70's, another said '61-'81...but the people referred to in the articles were 20 somethings. Hellloooo, I just turned 40. :-? It seems there must be a generation within a generation. :-?

Edited to add that another article says Gen Y's were born between '79 and '94.

Hmmm... much wider age ranges than I've always been led to believe

I always thought that Gen X'ers were basicly... born in the '70's since the title wasnt even coined until "my generation" started entering high school in the late '80's... I've never researched it but I figured the Gen X ran out with the Class of '96 or '97.... 2-3 years younger than me...

Seems like a wide range for the Y'ers too... but would prove my argument with my ex-wife that she wasnt Gen X... she was born in '79 and apparently those 3-4 years made a LOT of difference... she didnt even know who Oliver North was  good gawd, who could forget that wasted summer of trial/conference coverage

Okay, here's something else I found...seems the dates are open to interpretation judging by what I've posted so far.

born between 1946 - 1965 - The baby Boomers
born between 1966 - 1982 - My Generation - Generation X
born between 1983 - date - Generation Y

I knew I was on the cusp, but never considered myself a Baby Boomer.

 Man... I just cant see someone born in '46 as part of a "generation" with others born in '65

It's Hippies and Free Love VS. The end of Disco and start of AID's Epidemic...
It's Pot VS. Cocaine
It's long straight hair VS. teased bangs

Just attitude in general ... and resilience - they dont seem to have a lot of resilience ... us old people keep turning up at work if we have a sniffle, but the Generation Y people seem to not be able to turn up a lot .....

interesting, in many senses i can see what you are saying. . . back when i was in high school (and middle school and elementary school) it seemed that so many of my peers would miss school just because of a cold. Like even my younger cousin who i was just talking to told me she missed school last week because she had a "hoarse (sp?) voice". . . i place the blame of the lack of resilience on the parents, because its the parents that give the Gen Y'ers the mindset of "god forbid you have a cold, you better not go to school" and that carries over into work. I guess i was never raised in the fashion because my mother is a doctor and she realized that no matter what, even if i had a fever, i had to go to school. In college and work that has carried over with me and i just tuff it out, but i see many of my friends dont.

any more questions? id be happy to help :D

Thanks for that - it makes sense. I am someone who has some medical issues - but I look a picture of health against the younger people
When I was a kid - we were sent to school no matter what - so guess we built up resilience ... and it was no fun to stay at home - where as these days - there is all the video's and internet to keep you occupied .....

I guess I dont understand the attitude that "people owe them" - hard to explain - but I just have the feeling that they feel they are entitled to a lot ....

hmm . . . i dont really follow. Do u mean that u think that Gen Y'ers think their elders owe them, or their peers? I guess i dont really feel that i am owed a lot (but maybe i am and just dont realize it)

give me an example and maybe i can help a little more
