Pittsburgh Show!!

Post by Zanzibar »

Hello Phruits! :D I'm posting from my mom's house tonight because she lives by Pittsburgh staying here instead of getting a hotel :P But the Pittsburgh show was EXCELLENT!! PNC Park was great and the fireworks were awesome! I used up 3 disposable cameras and I snuck a camera inside and took some great pictures of the show I'm getting them developed tomarrow and will have them posted sometime this week. I was in section 101 row A and the seats were great. The band came out on golf carts to the stage and I was right there watching them come out. Heather even waved and blew me a kiss  :D

I'll post more tomarrow but I'm beat now Hot day today!

Night! :pirate:
I Wanna go back down and get high by the sea there...

AS was said the show was awesome! I got there after 4 so I parked immediately across the river in downtown to take the Clemente bridge to the stadium (The one they shot the fireworks off of) and paid $5...thank God after hearing it was $30 in the lots at the stadium.

I have a feeling this may be the last at PNC as on the news tonight there supposedly was a ton of people that weren't allowed in after 6:30 because the PNC gates were closed.

Oh well since I thought the show was very cool! The parking was better to get in and out of than Post-Gazette so that made it even easier.

According to the paper, it wasn't that they weren't allowed in, but that too many people tried to use the same gate and it bottle-necked. Why they weren't redirected to other gates by staff is beyond me..... I'd have been p*ssed!

Looks like they tried:

Like other concert-goers, she thought that only the home plate gate was opened, and didn't realize she could go to another gate until police officers moved her and others in line to a different gate.

Yeah, but there should have been signs, or staff directing people, or something, rather than the police trying to move people. Doesn't sound like the best planning. :(

Pittsburgh show

Post by MargaritaMadness »

44 of us took a bus to the PNC show and we have all vowed that if Jimmy holds his concert there again next year, we are done. The tailgating, which is half of the phun, was lame at best. All of the sights that you look forward to seeing were not there, such as the ice sculptures to do shots from. Everyone was just too spread out. When we were coming in to the park, we could see little groups set up in small parking lots trying to make the best of a bad situation. It is bad enough that we got raped over the ticket prices, but then to be charged $30 for parking. We had seats in the 12th row but, once this 6'4" giant stood up in front of us, the whole show was lost. At least the Post Gazzette has different levels on the floor so you can at least see over the giants in the crowd. The show itself was good. Jimmy looked beat from the heat. Also, my girlfriend got thrown out of the show because she was dancing in the aisle down on the floor. We were stuffed in there and if you wanted to move, you kept constantly bumping the person next to you, so she started dancing in the aisle and they threw her out so she missed 3/4 of the concert. At least on the lawn at Post Gazette, you don't get thrown out for dancing and you have some room to move. As far as we are concerned, Jimmy did his phans wrong by moving the concert to PNC and next time he needs to think about his phans.

You think Jimmy knew your girlfriend was going to get thrown out for dancing in the aisle? Or that one of the gates wouldnt be open? Give it a rest. Be p*ssed @ the venue...not the artist!

Which leeds me to the question.... how many times was she asked to NOT dance in the aisle? Because I am guessing she would have have been doing some serious dancing for security to tap her and say...get out.... No warning No nothing. There must be a little more to the story.

Not happy about the lines

Post by karat »

I am not happy about the damn line to get in PNC. 45 mins was short compared to some. We were at left field entrance and were not told to go around to the other side where there were two more areas open.

$30 to park - come on Pittsburgh there are other ways to make money. But hopefully the parrotheads gave your clean up crew a run for your money!

Seating prices were a bit out there - too out there. Go back to Star Lake where it was outside, fun, not hassels (except for leaving - and we know how to work that).

I wrote a letter to the editor - get real... and the BS line about there were no problems for Springsteen...yeah, okay...

Next time if you are going to do a concert in the city, either pick a venue that KNOW HOW to handle crowds (like Heinz Field), or get a lesson from the folks at Star Lake...

Was the Pittsburgh show not on "Radio Margaritaville" last night? I was at work, and went out to listen in the car on Sirius around 9:30PM and it was not on. Then when I got off work at 11PM I didn't hear any post concert call ins or anything. Did I just miss it, or was the concert not on for some reason last night?

Pittsburgh Show

Post by MargaritaMadness »

Hey, all I'm saying is Jimmy picked the venue. He's the one who decided to make a change. My girlfriend was only doing what she has done at Buffett concerts for the past 15 years. We are loyal phans of Jimmy's going to his concerts in the Burgh on both Friday and Saturday night when he used to play both nights. If we wanted to sit in a chair and listen to the concert, we could have stayed at home and not lined Jimmy's pockets with any more of our money.

There was nothing wrong with Post Gazette, they are always able to handle the parking and it doesn't cost you $30.00 either. Ball parks should be used for what they were intended for ...to play ball.

I guess the problem I am having is all the blame is being placed on the artist. Am I the only one who DOES NOT think the artist has little to do with the venue selection?

But MM...you never did answer the question in my original post. How many times was your gal asked to clear the aisles before she was ejected?

Personally-I thought the tailgating was great. The $30 lots were crazy and partying as much, if not more, than at StarLake. Tents and grills were going and so were the ice shots. The $100 lot, if you walked through and made friends, were even more so. yea, it was different, but such is life. I would like him to back to PNC-being downtown was great.

First of all, I thought Jimmy was OUTSTANDING last night. He seemed to have a lot of energy and was having a ball. The sound was good too (much to my surprise). It was unbelieveably hot inside the stadium, and Jimmy made mention of this by saying it was the new parotthead diet- " I lost 7 pounds at the Jimmy Buffett show", and something about getting a show and a sauna at the same time. We arrived at 11:15 and made our way to the lot that we park in for Steeler games. Lot 7, 2 blocks up from PNC. We asked the attendant if we could get in , and he said "sure". So much for not being able to get into the lots till 12. :D I did notice that the larger lots between Heinz Field and PNC didnt seem to open till 12 though. Tailgating was not as good as Starlake though...things did seem too stretched out. I think the people at PNC better learn how to handle a concert better. Especially before the Rolling Stones show in September. All in all, it was a GREAT show, and a fun time. Having said that, I'll now ask Jimmy to please go back to Starlake next year. I'm not complaining, just saying that JB shows are more fun there.

If it wasn't for being 15 rows back at the concert i probably wouldn't of enjoyed it as much as star lake. I heard from a couple people that the reason he came to pnc this year instead of star lake was that jimmy wanted 2 shows and they wouldn't give it to him.... I thought the set list was amazing. I wasn't disapointed with jimmy's performance at all. The choice of venue was pathletic though.. i have to agree with MargaritaMadness that ball parks are meant to play ball and thats it. The staff was so bad that people who were in section 25 could walk up to row 10 in sectoin 7 without a problem. Thats probably why it was so packed up there. The parking lot wasn't as good as star lake either. it just wasn't the same... EVERYONE knows that too.. Ok enough of talking about how bad pnc park was.. Jimmy was awesome, i had great seats *thank god*, i got on the big screen, and i had a hottie beside me, and i didn't die.. so after all is said and done i thought it was a great concert minus the fact the pnc park sucked.. And finally if people were getting mad for people dancing and having a good time.. screw them.. its a buffett concert... your supposed to be moving around. you should expect to be bumped into from time to time.. And i believe jimmy had a HUGE impact on where he goes.. he's the boss. I don't think jimmy knew what to expect coming into pnc. I just think he will be somewhere else next year. If he doesn't change i will still come and have the best time i can. sorry if this makes no sense at all.. just my views on the situations and also i am also still recovering from the concert haha.

BRH -- RM listed the concert as from 6:00-9:00 pm, so it seems like it started and ended earlier than others (I know at Great Woods it didn't start until just after 8, and was done by 11)

Just be glad this wasn't the Phish concert up here in VT last summer. I didn't go, but the traffic got so bad they CLOSED the interstate and told people to go home. No one would be allowed in. So, the concert-goers abandoned their cars on the interstate and WALKED. Yikes!!!
