Southern Rock Or Not?

more like "bands from the south" as opposed to to southern rock.
For example REM is a band from the south but they are not southern rock.
Better yet, if you can picture the band waving a rebel flag then yes, they are southern rock.

That site is all in fun but even Ronnie Van Zant, Gregg Allman and Charlie Daniels have all played down the "Southern Rock" tag at one time or another. Van Zant even went against the Confederate flag backdrop in their early days but went along with it because of the record company. After seeing that Southern Rock special on CMT a few weeks ago that doesn't sound much like him but I guess it's one area where he decided to give in.

I just saw Skynyrd the other night and they were certainly playing up the ole Southern Cross...it wasn't Ronnie though, obviously!
