Gene Mitchell played at my wedding in Key West in 2000. Here's one of the photos from the event-

Image

He wrote the song "Sail Away" for Kathy and me, and preformed it for the very first time in public at our wedding. It's on his C.D. "Down Island Way." He's also played IN MY BACK YARD to about 100 parrotheads, plus at a couple bars here in Cedar Rapids.
The photo on the back of the "Down Island Way" C.D. was also taken at my wedding.
He's a great singer, a fantastic musician, and, I'm proud to say, a teriffic friend.
If you ever have a chance to hear him, I HIGHLY recommend it.
He has several dynamite C.D.s out too.

Great story! I have a 5 of his CD's Vacation, Sail-Ebration, Island Party, Tropical Jazz (HIGHLY RECOMMMENDED FOR THE AMY LEE FANS SINCE SHE APPEARS ON MOST OR ALL OF THE TRACKS) and Caribbean Cowboy

Oh and that's an awesome song he wrote for you two!!! It also appears on Sail-Ebration.

Thanks, Rick.
Yes, the "Tropical Jazz" C.D. is a great one. John Raymond-Kenny G's guitar player-is on that album as well.
Amy Lee also plays saxophone on "MY" song, "Sail Away."
She also sent me a very nice e-card just after my wedding. A great and classy lady she is, AND a very talented musician. I look for her to be around for a long long time.

Ditto.. I got the pleasure of hearing her play an impromtu performance basically with a bunch of her friends for $5 here in Atlanta! Her husband joined her on stage for one song on bass guitar. What loads of fun! and what an incredible talent she is (sorry Steve if you read this LOL)

If you don't have her CD's, get em. I thought she played on more songs on Tropical Jazz, the album credits her on two types of Sax but not specific songs which indicate all. Did I misunderstand you or read the CD wrong ?

If I'm not mistaken, she appears on all songs on the "Tropical Jazz" C.D., and MOST of the songs on "Down Island Way."

I had a nice visit with her, T.C. Mitchell, and Doyle Grisham last year in Chicago when they appeard with the house band "Boat Drunks" at the Key Wester in Naperville on the Friday night between the two concerts.
It's the only time I've ever seen Doyle play the guitar.

Ok, that clarifies it. I misunderstood your other reply about her sax on the songs. I know Gene had wanted her to appear on one before but he wanted to finish the album before he got the nod so he basically wrote Tropical Jazz for her appearance. This is what he told me in Panama City last weekend.

If the damn hurricanes leave the place alone for once, I'll get to see him this November.
We were supposed to drive down there twice last year, but the people we were going to stay with lost their home to one of the hurricanes. (Charlie, I think).
We're going to try again this November, so I hope the G.D. hurricanes go the hell back out to sea.

If he does his Crab Island gig for the Emerald Coast PHC in Sept we may go down then. He is playing at the A1A Beach Bash on Friday night July 15 in St. Augustine.
