Key West

Post by Ilph »

Alright, I'm heading down to Key West next week. I know there's been tons of discussion about what to see and do there, but in this thread I'm asking for everyone to only list ONE thing to see or do. If you could only do ONE thing in Key West, what would it be?

Go.

Sunset cruise on the "Floridays".

It's the boat at the Hyatt Marina. It's not as extravagant as some of the HUGE ships that go out, but it's gorgeous and has a really friendly crew. It's more intimate. I feel like it's more bang for your buck.

I'll be out there on the 20th and I intend to do it. :pirate:

See Dominique the Catman at the Hilton sunset celebration. Obviously! :)

Blue Heaven for breakfast or lunch...
it's got a great "feel" and great food.
We've been for dinner too, but the atmosphere wasn't the same.

(we went for lunch after checking out the lighthouse and the Hemingway House...same general vicinity)

Besides all of the good recommendations above, pull up a barstool at Hog's Breath, have a drink, munch on some conch fritters, and listen to some good music.

(and NEXT week?? keep your eyes peeled.... supposedly "Hoot" is shooting in Florida.... never know who might turn up where. )

Once you are in Key West: Take the day trip out to Fort Jefferson (Dry Tortugas National Park)
Image

Here's something to do on the way down US1: Have lunch at Mangrove Mama's at mile marker 20. Try the cracked conch sandwich, a Corona and their key lime pie.

Ok, but technically I only mentioned one thing to do in Key West. ;)

Go to the Green Parrot (the 1st and last bar on a1a) on a Monday at 5 p.m. to meet up with the Alice Foundation Happy Hour. Their mascot is a monkey (Alice) and it is an official drinking club! We've met up with them with our own mascot (Piglet) a few times when we've been down there! Great bar for live music and pool, and you can bring in delicious BBQ to have with your beers from the Meteor which is steps away.
