My Dad has a bumper sticker I'm sure you all would love. It's stuck on the wall of his bathroom and reads:

"If you like hugging trees, you better be using plastic toilet paper"

That is exactly what I meant. I guess the use of the word hippie today isn't quite reverent of those who were originally hippies. As you said, a lot of those from the original hippie era grew up to do a lot of good, and were worth far more than those were referring to in today's age.

Think we need to refer to those of today as something other than hippies.

I already did:

See http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.p ... ustafarian

1. trustafarian
a. a spoiled rich white kid who smokes pot.
b. a person who, in an act of rebellion has taken to smoking pot, pan-handling, and following grateful dead rip-off bands during the week, and then returning to his or her parent's cozy home in the suburbs during the weekend.
c. one who lives with poorer people in an attempt to gain credibility, or street-cred, while disguising the trust fund they actually live off

2. trustafarian
financially backed wanna-be hippies

3. trustafarian
A rich young white person, from a mansion house in the shires, usually with trust funds from mummy and daddy yet pretends he is poor. This species, more often than not, have dreadlocks, wear ethnic clothing, play the digeree-doo, dodge soap and generally mope around thinking they alternative and above everyone else. Over the last 20 years or so they have infested India, Thailand and Nepal under the premise they are travellers, not tourists. Most will end up working for their daddy as a venture capitalist.

I understand environmental concerns (I have concerns myself, just not nearly as large as these people), but I don't understand people voicing their opinion in disrespectful ways. There are more effective ways to get a point across, and there are many people that would be inspired by these stickers to buy bigger, less efficient SUV's just to stick it to them. I know that if I found one of these stickers on my car I would kick some hippie @$$.

Yes. and part of the problem is that they have no reason to even believe in that particular cause. It hasn't affected them, it's just 'cool' at the time.

I think it is absolutely acceptable to have a fierce belief and fight for that belief, be it for animals, people, your foot, a tree, etc.

My problem with these people is that when you try to talk to them about their cause, all they can do is spew propaganda and talk like an automaton. They can not differ from their cause, they cannot even consider or discuss anything that does not strictly adhere to what they're shoving in your face. I have the same problem with them that I do the very in your face religious people who try to convert and intimidate.

I have no problem discussing a belief, but I sort of look for a discussion and not a tyrranical speech. It's that open minded thing, I guess.

Anyone ever see the movie PCU? There was a group called the 'causeheads'. They ran around the campus toting signs and lingo for whatever cause was hip that day.

These, Tom, are the Causeheads. They find a world-threatening issue and stick with it for about a week.

Or as long as they get paid and their lives are not endangered.... Remember the so called "volunteers" to be "human shields" for Iraq and found out there they were going to placed ? and what they said and did?

I think everyone of them should not have been allowed to return and if so, then used for "intelligence purposes" then sterilized to ensure they would never be able to breed then stripped of their citizenship. They "claimed" they supported our troops but made it more difficult for our troops..if the targets had a high enough priority..oh well...they volunteered didn't they and they knew the risks.....

One thing that seems to be different with those that professionaly protest, such as those that protest the G-8, and those that protest infront of abortion clinics ( and I could be wrong about this ) is that those that protest infront of abortion clinics don't seem to have videos and cameras and lawyers or other people with legal documents to be signed forpolice brutality /harrassment etc.

The abortion protestors, also don't seem to chain themselves together using the various devices that they could easily be harmed when removed by paramedics or whoever and turn around and file assualt/harrasment charges against the people removing them.

Sy,
You are definitely correct on that people we were talking about and their lack of knowledge. I know of one weapons system the protestors claimed was blah blah blah and a "MIRV" weapon. The weapon never left the atmosphere and only carried one payload. IMPOSSIBLE for it to have been a MIRV! ( there were oher things wrong with what they said as well)One protestor claimed to have been arrested over 40 times for protesting "various beliefs and causes"... Normally they are nothing but pawns being used, by those behind the scenes that want the "police brutality" and violence to happen, so they can get sympathy from the media and for their cause... whatever it happens to be.

Just as the terrs use suicide bombers for their cause....notice none of the terrs's leaders are suicide bombers....but they have no problem convincing or coercing others to blow themselves up, either by money for their family or other means.

Those who protest abortion clinics don't just protest the workers, though, they protest anyone and everyone they see coming within a certain radius of the clinic, no matter what that person's business is. The leftie protesters usually stick with protesting the entire event (WTO, G-8 etc.) and the cops.

I think they are all wackos.

Kind of like PETA protesting fishing and disturbing me while I am trying to rip a poor trout out of the river by its lips.

Or

The damn Campus Crusaders for Christ who insist on coming by while I am tailgating at the football games to inform me of such things like
"Hell is hot"
No s***? Why do you think I am drinking all this beer?
