His employer doesnt know he wants to leave. Do you know how BAD I want to call them up and let them in on his little secret............?
Sounds like a great chance to "check his references" to me...

I had 2 offers this week so far. And I am not even looking for a job.
It's AWFUL here in Denver. The offers I've had are WAY lower than what I get paid now and barely competetive benefits. I kinda screwed myself by going into the technology field and then wanting to get out. I'm beginning to think the whole process is futile unless I work for another big company doing more technical work which is exactly what I don't want.

It's been crappy for hubby as well, simply because there's not a huge market for hiring externally for reporting and analysis. The few interviews he's had have ultimately been filled by existing employees that already know the systems and such. In general, it's a hard position to find vacancies for anyway because there's so many different titles associated with what he does you really have to look and see what the position is.

Basically, when we get back from vacation we're screwed anyway because during the strike we'll be working 7 days a week/12 hrs a day. Fortunately, so far both of us are scheduled to stay in Denver, but that's a small gem compared to what our family will have to endure. :-? :-? :-?

Sorry for MY rant, but I'm super edgy about it right now.

Really anything and everything for Qwest Wholesale. Qwest products, call volumes, error volumes, order completions, service criteria. For about 3 years he's been stuck with 2 reall pr*cks for bosses which is why he had been looking so hard for a new job. Just before we left for Mexico, his a**hole boss quit and he got a really awesome boss so he's willing to stick it out at Qwest for a while longer. He's actually considering turning down a promotion to a different group because he likes his new boss so much--I haven't seen him this happy at his job in a really long time. His boss is even considering giving him more $$ to match the pay the promotion would give him just to keep him on the team.

The only thing that really p*** him off right now is the strike. We're screwed if it happens.

Well !@#$%#%^@%#, a moral dilemma...

As much fun as it would be, I guess I'd have to just let it go....

Usually, these people manage to step in it on their own sooner or later anyway..... if you let it go, you've not violated your own conscience.

However.... I'd at least make a mental note. Odds are that eventually, sombody just might ask if you know him.

A good friend of mine from high-school is a Qwest manager. I see him at the gym about everyday, and he is not looking forward to the strike either. Which tool set does Matt use for the analysis?

I ask because I am a data warehousing dude.

Qwest is very Microsoft-centric, so for small projects it's Excel and for larger one's it's usually Access. They just acquired a new tool, I think it's called WebFOCUS that Matt really likes a lot but it's like pulling teeth with IT (hehe, my department) to get licenses for new software. The only downside to that tool that I've seen is that you have to pay-per-seat versus being able to develop the program in a Web-based format so users can access it via a browser. The reports he creates with the tool are phenomenal and very streamlined, but unless you have the client loaded on each machine you use to view the reports, the information is basically useless.

I know at one point they used Actuate as well, but Qwest has distanced itself a bit from the company that supports it.

Oh Excel and Access....

Qwest is a lot bigger than we are. They need a data warehouse....Then they need to hire me to develop it.

That's what he says. But Microsoft is cheap for our company to use and everyone and their dog has Excel and Access.

They've tried several times, unsuccessfully, to acquire a data warehouse, but Wholesale isn't willing to give up control to IT so IT won't approve the funding. What's really funny about that is one of my old projects was to maintain the IT Finance Web site that posted all the approved/denied requests so I would know it wasn't approved before anyone else.

Don't ya just love corporate politics???

We have the same thing. Our HR Dept won't let us touch their system because they do not want to relinquish control. And I so want to get my hands on that due to the fact that we own construction entities in AZ, NV, and CA. How many people are using the same SS number?

I wish our HR dept was MORE paranoid. We use ADP here for payroll (and Microsoft for everything else), and I handle all of the it/admin for adp, which means I work a lot with our HR folks. I don't know how many times I've walked back to their area and people's salaries, performance reviews, etc., just sitting out in the open for all to see. I keep yelling at them about it and the stuff just remains out there in the open. :(

Yet Joe Schmoe who no one cares about won't give me his password to test an issue because he thinks I'm going to care what's in his email. Then gets mad when I just go ahead and reset it :(

LIPH wrote:But this wirks both ways. When I got out of law school and was looking for a job I sent out a ton of resumes. Now I don't expect to hear from every place I send my resume to because they get so many of them. But if a law firm goes to the trouble of bringing me in for an interview and I write a letter to the interviewee thanking them for their time, they owe me the courtesy of a response. Even if it's a "f*** you a**hole, we'd never hire someone like you" letter.
I agree. Every person who submits a resume to us gets a decline or acceptance letter. Nobody gets ignored. Everybody deserves a prompt response.

To me, it just makes no sense to burn any bridges. Sure, it may not have been a good fit at this time, but in the future, you never know. Especially in Gainesville, there's not a huge job market for this field. Burning bridges is never a good idea unless you're changing fields all together.
