Chronic Lyricosis

Post by Sharky »

I brought my brother to Great Woods this year for his first Buffett concert. We had a fantastic day and he had a great time at the concert. After the concert walking back to the car he was singing Volcano. I had to ask him to stop and repeat the line and this is how it went “I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know where I’m a gonna go when the bars gonna close”. After I stopped laughing I told him the real words.

So my question is there have to be other Buffett lyricosis stories. I got such a laugh out of this, I would love to hear others.

There are some I have heard and some I had said when I first started to get into Buffett. I wish I remembered

BTW, I like your brother's lyrics though.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Life is short, live long!!

I'd rather be a wiseass than a dumbass.

my father who is an occasional buffett-listener always thinks that the line in Volcano: "My girl quickly say to me," is actually something like "my girl Quigley said to me" and he always asks me "who the hell is 'Quigley'??"

It's not a biggie, but I used to sing "Wasting away again in M'Ville."

Used to be a lot more, just can't remember.

Sometimes more than others,
we see who and what and where we are,
I'm just a one man band,
With my feet in the sand,
Tonight I just need my guitar

My girlfriend had this one and now they're the only words we sing,
"blew out my flip-flop, stepped on a pop-tart!"

You can shake the hand of the mangled man, as he greats you at the border
You’re still grinning, we’re still winning, nothing left to say
I’m still gliding as I go flying down this endless wave

I actually sing that exact pop-tart line to my kids because they love pop tarts so much - they think it's quite funny. Good to hear I'm not the only one who does this (but I've always known what the real words are).

How about this one I heard years ago: "I know I should be leaving this climate. I got a burst of kin Rummy. I gotta go where it's warm." I think they thought he was singing about a type of rum or some alcoholic drink. What do they think, that all PH's do is drink????
For years I've been plugged into blenders and songs.

"All of the two-bits covered in oil"

I don't even know what a two-bit is, but it sounded right to me

 Alright I admit it. Many years ago I also thought it was "Dance to the left..." I also sang the following lyrics (to what I always thought was an odd topic for a song) to Boat Drinks: "boys in the band ordered PORTRAITS

Some people never find it, some only pretend; but me, I just want to live happily ever after every now and then.

:o :o OMG!!! That's our line! This was always the last song our college bar played at Rutgers....so it really fit!
I wasn't at Great Woods this year, or I'd take the blame. I always sing it that way...LOUD

I had no idea what the real lyrics were until today. I at first thought is was Walmart too, but I would have never guessed raw bars.

I thought that was the line til Jimmy started saying mango with an accent when he sings. I first thought, why would you wanna shake hands with a guy whose mangled?

Apparently this is a popular one. When my friend sang it and asked me, who is this mangled man? it left an image that I see now everytime I hear the song! This guy looks kind of mangled :pirate: ???
