My first ticket was for "failure to stop" at a flashing red light that I ran at about 1am and side-swiped a cop car.

I was 18 and giving a friend-of-a-friend a ride home. I had never met this dude and the cops ended up arresting him for paraphenilia.

My first ticket was for doing 57 in a 55 zone. Not too serious, of course, had the officer been 4 miles up the freeway he would have nailed me at 95+. What a difference of a few miles can make!

I beat this on in court.
Most of the time I've managed to talk my way out of tickets and I have slowed things down abit, now I try to go with the flow. On I - 15 around here that's about 80.

totalled my first car 45 days after I got it
My
first ticket came in... oh,
October maybe of my Senior year in HS... I was 17... that would be the first of many that would follow over the next two years... I took the ticket limit and "defensive driving school" courses as far as I could go before I would lose my license (I think in Bama that means either
6 or 8 within 2 years... I lose count)...
Totalled my second car in May of ('94) my Senior year as well
Had another
ticket in February of '95 while coming back from a drum corps rehearsal in Rockford, IL... pulled over in Indiana... doin
96 in a 65... fortunately, the trooper didnt clock me before I downshifted and hit the brakes... Unfortunately, he told me they would not be communicating with Montgomery and it would never show up in Bama - oh and you can pay by mail.... never paid it.... never showed up on my record... no contact from Indiana... and I've been through a checkpoint in Indiana where they ran my license... nothing shows up
Finally, later in
May of '95 I had a guy roll out of the back of my p'up - his fault by his own admission... he stood up like a dumbass but his mom pushed on my insurance to pay med bills -
State Farm basicly told 'em to kiss their ass cause it was his fault... but still
cancelled me...
Next ticket I had came
5 1/2 yrs later and was in Sept. of 2000... paid it and took the class no biggie... didnt have another ticket till
April of 2002 on the way to the Buffett show in Nashville - Paid it through the mail... only to find out a year and a half later my license had been suspended for "failure to appear" aka: Unpaid ticket in TN... so I PAID IT AGAIN

and got that cleared up for 3x's the amount of the first time I paid it...
Kept my nose clean for another 3 yrs... until back in
March of this year I got pulled over in
East Tennessee... just outside of
Johnson City... near Kingsport... I was going to visit my girlfriend and was a mile from the exit when I got clocked for
80 in a 70... 10 over

Give me a f***ing break... anyhoo... was on my way up again for the weekend
back in April to not only visit my girlfriend for a routine weekend but also to attend court in Kingsport TN for the ticket that Mon. morning... when low and behold I get pulled over in
Chattanooga....
93 in a 45... though I still contest that it was 70... Interstate under supposed construction with "workers present"... which was a load of crap... just went to court on that one a week ago Thursday... Trooper didnt show up and so I managed to talk a $400 ticket down to $160 w/payment arrangements WOOOOOOHOOOOOO.....
So you see...
I haven't gotten a ticket in my home state in 5 yrs
MORAL OF THE STORY: They will get better with age... AND... Dont drive in Tennessee
Wonder if this is why Cuervo said my car has wings???

Kevin- did they base that new insurance commercial (not sure which company) on you???? Has anyone else seen this commercial where the guy refers to"recktember"?

Not sure about NJ, but in GA you can take a driver improvement course once every 5 years to knock a ticket down to a "warning" and thus no points. You still have to pay the penalty and court costs, but its a lot cheaper than an "Assigned Risk" insurance policy. Most honest lawyers will tell you if this is an option and thus saving you the lawyer fee. Also, if the schools are like they are in GA, you can tell them they are there for insurance purposes and the course costs almost half as much.
As for my first ticket:
First warning was 95 in a 35; I was 16 or 17. I love small towns where I know which cops can use radars and which ones can't.
First real ticket was 70 in a 55; once again, 16 or 17.

First ticket ever was on the interstate by a state trooper. Said I was doing 77 in a 55.
Thankfully my uncle is a police officer, he went to court with me, and talked to his people downstairs, who talked to thier people upstairs.
Ticket should have cost me at least 95, but I walked out only paying 60 dollars, and got immeditae supervision , which was from the time I had my ticket to the court date.
Only other speeding ticket I have recieved was up near Alpine Valley. That one the cop said I was doing 17 over. Had to pay 150.50 on the spot, or go to the county jail.
Just thankful the one night I really tested out my one truck, there were no cops out. I had my truck up to 140 mph. A trip that usually took about 20 mins or so only took me 8 minutes.

As far as I know in NJ you get the points reduced with the state but the insurance points remain. And insurance points don't reduce one every year like state does.
