I'm on the US Coast Guard Cutter Bear out of Portsmouth, VA, and a couple of the guys on here swear that Jimmy Buffett was in the Coast Guard. I say that he applied for the Naval Academy but didn't get in, but that he was never in the Coast Guard, does anyone on here know for sure???

I don't think he was ever in the Coast Guard. Naval Acadamy makes sense but I don't know about that either.

nope to both.
He has sailed on the Coast Guard ship, "The Eagle", he mentions that in one of the many concert recordings from RM. As for the Naval Academy, "that was the dream that they had", talking about his parents in "We Are the People"

I know for sure he applied for the Naval academy, he said so in A Pirate Looks At 50, but I'm just not sure about the Coast Guard

he probably did, but did not make it thru the screening process for whatever reason. He was never a Middie

He was never in any branch of the military.
He did do a scene aboard the Coast Guard Cutter "Eagle" for the video of S.O.A.S.O.A.S., and he also took Naval flight training (and even took off and landed aboard a couple of aircraft carriers) but never served in the military.

Jimmy came aboard the carrier I was on (USS America) in the Caribbean after a port call in St. Thomas in Feb. 89. He did a mini show in the hangar deck before his launch with VF-33. The maintenance guys in that squadron painted Margaritaville where the crew names are just below the canopy.
Couple years ago the guys at Air Marg. called and asked to use the ramp the next day at Watson Island. I figured I would give him a blast from the past and showed him the cruise book with his pic in it sitting in the RIO seat in the F-14 from a number of years before. As he was signing it, he mentioned how he has signed alot of strange things, but never a cruise book.
I'll have to see if my scanner still works and run that pic through it.

Pretty magical story to tell the truth.
