I'll give Ainge credit...he's going to be a damn good QB...he did great as a freshman. My take on the game is this: Zook, who could barely call a decent game to save his life, should have beat UT last year with a completely inexperienced defense and young offense. If it weren't for the Refs blown and biased calls, we would have won. Now this year...Meyer, who's actually instilled discipline in these guys...with a better coaching mind, an experienced offense and some stud receivers to go along with Leak....and returning almost our entire defense.......Watch out :pirate:

Good God, do I have hear this crap every year from you guys? It's always the refs. Its never that you all just lost the game. You should be powdering the ref's rear end that made that touchdown catch call for Gafney up in Knoxville in 1999. You win some, you lose some. Take and go with it.

I watched a spring practice special on ESPN2 last night that Kirk Herbstreet did. He spent a day with the Gators and Meyer and did some interviews and things. Meyer looks very poised and strong. He worries me a little. You never know until the guys hit the field, but they seemed to be doing all of the right things at practice. IMO though, Leak may be the biggest waste of talent in the country. I think he is the most athletic and talented QB in the country, but I don't know if he has the mental factor to go along with it to make him a great QB. My Vols will definately have their hands full playing at the Swamp the 2nd game of the year, and then in Death Valley the very next Saturday. My prediction is that we will go 10-1 in the regular season, losing to either Florida or LSU. If we lose to LSU, we can still go to the SECCG and have a re-match. If we lose to Florida, we won't be at the SECCG. I think that will be enough of a mental motivator to give us the edge. So get ready........3 IN A ROW IN THE SWAMP! GO VOLS!

Man, you're not kidding about the discipline part. From today's Orlando Sentinel . . .
Orlando Sentinel wrote:]Said Meyer: "I hear people say it's not a coach's job to babysit players. Why not?"

"The guys are actually scared now, scared to make a mistake," said UF safety Jarvis Herring, who was arrested last summer but has transformed himself into one of Meyer's favorites.

Meyer uses peer pressure to instill the uneasiness Herring talks about. The players who abide by the rules each semester become members of the "Champions Club" and are regaled with a banquet in which they are served steak and baked potato. Those who aren't in the Champions Club sit on the other side of the room and eat wieners and beans.

Meyer's punishments aren't typical either. If a running back doesn't show up for a class, Meyer might order all the running backs, the running backs coach and the running backs coach's family to show up for a compensatory study hall on Friday night.

"If you feel responsible for letting down your whole position group, your position coach and your coach's family -- that's pretty strong," Meyer said. "I've brought my son in with me [to a study hall] and said to the [guilty] player: 'You want to explain to this 6-year-old boy why he's sitting in here at 10:30 on a Friday night?' Having to explain why you skipped class to a 6-year-old is a much more powerful punishment than running stadium steps."

I didn't say Gaffney caught the ball  But 2 blown things, back to back....a retalliation that was extremely clear...and then the refs screwing up the time clock was major...every broadcaster and sports guy in America talked about how the Refs screwed the pooch on that one. It did help Zook out the door...but I'd rather lose to MSU than UT

Meyer will be a huge factor. He won't tolerate the NUMEROUS personal fouls that Zook let his players get away with. That disgusted us. Meyer will kick their ass for stupidity like that. I think Leak will be better. Our QB coach (Zaun) really screwed up Leak's throwing motion with his coaching. Leak was better his freshman year when he was untouched. After their coaching, his mechanics were all out of whack. Meyer said that Leak's mechanics have greatly improved over the summer. He also has to work on his nerves...some times he looks like he's afraid to get hit (of course, with our weak offensive line last year letting every DL take a shot, I don't blame him).

I think UT has a good year...I think you'll be able to beat LSU...I'm not sold on them yet...especially after losing Saban. I think UF has a great chance at going undefeated, assuming they adapted to the new offense. UGA lost some major players, FSU is still wabbly....UT I'm definitely most worried about, but I think we take back the Swamp this year.

about the Gafney call from a few years back, once the ball is caught in the end zone the play is over. That's the way it works.
Last year's call was just home cookin'.
Ainge is prone to Rixesque mistakes and I think the Gators will pull it out.

I believe he had control long enough and maybe the ball was knocked out, but then there was not a good camera angle on it.

We will just agree to disagree. You had your view at home on your TV and I had my view just 8 rows up from that endzone where the ball was thrown. I saw it with my own eyes. I'm glad instant replay will begin this year. If it had existed then, UT would have won that game. NO DOUBT!

Don't be so sure
From what I remember there was not a good enough camera angle to overturn it had replay existed.
I've even tried finding it online but could not but I did find this
http://www.gatorzone.com/football/audio ... 09-16g.ram
I know it does not mean anything but it does sound good.
And no I'm not really a Gator fan.
I'm just glad college football is back even though I'm a Nole fan :-?
