ParrotheadGator wrote:I didn't say Gaffney caught the ball  But 2 blown things, back to back....a retalliation that was extremely clear...and then the refs screwing up the time clock was major...every broadcaster and sports guy in America talked about how the Refs screwed the pooch on that one. It did help Zook out the door...but I'd rather lose to MSU than UT
No question that they blew the calls, but I don't really think that bias had anything to do with it. Ultimately though, the gators lost because their defense couldn't keep a true freshman from moving his team into field goal range with less than 50 seconds left.
ParrotheadGator wrote:Meyer will be a huge factor. He won't tolerate the NUMEROUS personal fouls that Zook let his players get away with. That disgusted us. Meyer will kick their ass for stupidity like that. I think Leak will be better. Our QB coach (Zaun) really screwed up Leak's throwing motion with his coaching. Leak was better his freshman year when he was untouched. After their coaching, his mechanics were all out of whack. Meyer said that Leak's mechanics have greatly improved over the summer. He also has to work on his nerves...some times he looks like he's afraid to get hit (of course, with our weak offensive line last year letting every DL take a shot, I don't blame him).
I think Florida will be improved, but you never know how a new coach will handle pressure like he has never seen before. You can also never tell how a quickly a team can adapt and pick up a new system. A lot has been made of Meyer instilling more discipline and doling out harsher punishments, but I won't be impressed until he is doing the same in a few years. It is easy for a first year coach come in a drop the hammer. Especially following a coach that made as many mistakes as the Zookster did.
ParrotheadGator wrote:I think UT has a good year...I think you'll be able to beat LSU...I'm not sold on them yet...especially after losing Saban. I think UF has a great chance at going undefeated, assuming they adapted to the new offense. UGA lost some major players, FSU is still wabbly....UT I'm definitely most worried about, but I think we take back the Swamp this year.
I have no clue how the Vols will fare this season. Traditionally, we haven't handled the position of frontrunner very well. Hopefully that will change this year. Our fate will most likely be determined in September with our back to back trips to the swamp and red stick. I'll be happy with a split, obviously hoping that we make it 3 in a row in the swamp and lose a close one in Death Valley. That said, I think that the pups could be a darkhorse team in the East. Pretty much everyone outside of the state of Georgia has penciled the Vols or gators in, and considering the players they lost you can't blame anyone for overlooking the pups. I think that they could surprise some people if Shockey plays well. They lost a lot of players on defense as well as their coordinator.

I'll be surprised if any team gets out of the SEC unscathed.
Do I dare disturb the universe?

Last year's call was just home cookin'.
Ainge is prone to Rixesque mistakes and I think the Gators will pull it out.
only if said player has control of the ball
I believe he had control long enough and maybe the ball was knocked out, but then there was not a good camera angle on it.
We will just agree to disagree. You had your view at home on your TV and I had my view just 8 rows up from that endzone where the ball was thrown. I saw it with my own eyes. I'm glad instant replay will begin this year. If it had existed then, UT would have won that game. NO DOUBT!
Don't be so sure
From what I remember there was not a good enough camera angle to overturn it had replay existed.

You being a nole, it has to be a love and hate deal with Rix. I think most Noles are glad he's gone...he was an embarassment and lots of games were lost because of him. BUT....he always seem to find a way to pull a win out of his ass over the Gators  I hate to say it, but they probably would have won last year had Rix played the whole game instead of 1 quarter.

I didn't necessarily think it was a bias, but there's no doubting that they were 2 hugely blown calls, for whatever reason. Very true though, our defense collapsed, as they did more times than I can count under Zook. Prevent defense never works

This isn't exactly Meyer's first head coaching job. Yes, first head coaching job of this caliber, but he's still got some experience. Also being an assistant coach at Notre Dame, he's coached in some big games. And Meyer's discipline, I don't doubt that this will continue. Meyer's been very strict his entire career. He's very religious and carries a lot of that into other aspects of his life. I count on that firmness to be around for a while.

I agree that there will be some upsets this year, but I don't think they'll come from the pups...at least not over FL or UT. Shockley has been a joke his whole career. UGA lost some crucial games because they rotated Greene and Shockley when Greene was on fire. It made no sense...Shockley just isn't very good. Then of course, UF just owns UGA over the last 15 years. I look for Meyer to continue that trend.

Have a heart PhG! I love to hear good stories and see something different every once in a while. I love gameday! I think they have a head up on other stations because of their research on the personal stories. Other stations just talk about the hype and whats on paper. They go the next step and make the game mean something personal to everybody. Come on man, have a heart!

You know we used to DESPISE "the Coach", but I kind of like him now. When asked a couple of weeks ago where the best place in the country to watch a ball game was, he said "On a Saturday night on Rocky Top!" Gotta love him now!

Spoken like a true Gator - full of compassion and keen on the human interest and sacrifice that sets college sports head and shoulders above the professional game! No wonder Spurrier did so well there.....

FIRST WEEKEND?

My first weekend will be in Raleigh, NC at NCSU watching Va Tech vs. the Wolfpack. The Thursday before will be the itsy bitsy Spiders of UR vs. the Minutement of UMass - (Apparently, there was a time being a "Minute Man" was actually a GOOD thing - go figure....)

I love College Game Day. I can't wait for Aug 27th, when they have the season preview!

I moved in May and haven't ordered cable yet, but will make sure it is installed on Aug 28th so I can have Game Day and college football!

Go Ducks!
I wanna go back to the Island...

I think Rix had great physical ability but lacked a brain sometimes. Actually I credit Jeff Bowden with some of the problem.
At the begininng of last year I had high hopes for Rix (heck Kirk Herbstreit picked him for the Heisman ) but as soon as he dropped a perfectly hiked ball in overtime in the first game against Miami and lost the game I knew it would be more of the same.
This year I don't know what the heck to expect but I am prepared for a few losses which is good news for the remote control. I've busted a couple against the wall in the past (Louisville and Florida games).
I miss the domination of the 90s but at least the games are a lot better/closer now BUT now and then I just wanna see them kill somebody 56-10 for old times sake  Nowadaze anybody in the ACC can beat you........well...except Duke

With Jeff Bowden still the OC, anybody (maybe even Duke) have a shot at winning  I had a good friend who produced Bowden's after-game show (until he died in a freak accident earlier this year)....I heard some very interesting inside news about the Bowden's....

but it's very obvious, to me, they're trying to influence Bobby to retire. The statue? The stained glass window? "Bobby Bowden Field"? Those are things you do when somebody retires, not while they're still coaching. BTW - nothing was more sweet than seeing Bowden lose his first game (to UF, of course) on his dedication night (and to Zook, no less)

As for the Gameday "have a heart"...that's just me. I'm a heartless bastard  But more to the point, half the team probably has some sob story. Like watching a Miami game and them showing the sob story about a guy's brother getting shot....well no sh*t...he's a thug, grew up in the ghetto of Miami and can't even speak English. Would you expect anything less? Instead of spending 1/2 hour each on the 2 big games of hte day and then a 1/2 hour on the sob story, split that 1/2 hour up among the other decent games and teams and talk football damnit! It's GAMEDAY not Oprah
