2 weeks ago in 104* heat I saw a state trooper changing the tire on the highway for an old couple. you could see his vest bulging through his shirt & he was sweating pretty good..

people sure are quick to hate cops
it's a thankless dirty depressing negative job that they do,

if they only knew how hard that job is on you..

Really, it all depends. State Troopers have my respect, especially when you realize how much territory they have to cover, usually without backup in the cruiser.

Sheriff's Deputies, maybe, maybe not. Haven't had too much interaction with a lot of them.

City Police, very mixed bag. You have the ones who made it out of Patrol and actually use their heads like the Homicide and Robbery crews that come thru the pipe shop regularly. Then you have the Patrol officers who are either a) calm, deliberative, and willing to give you 5 mph over the limit because the flow of traffic would be messed up if you were toeing the line; or you have the jerks who decide that failure to use a turn signal in a turn only lane with an arrow signal is grounds for a stop in hope of turning something up.

Cops tend to earn respect just like everyone else.

fyi - cops aren't concerned if you respect them or not
most of the interactions people have with them are over something they (not the cops) did wrong
then they get mad at the cop for doing their job

then if the cops aren't at their house in 2 minutes at 2am 'cause they heard a wittle noise they get mad at the cops for not doing their job

yes, I do Connie

i read the story, i see no problem with the cussing

im also impressed how fasted you made the story up while on the phone, and am sad that you had to share you fake story with us to make yourself feel better about lieing to the cop, and oh yea florida sucks
read the story again...The story was NOT MADE UP! I did not lie. What I said was, If I WERE making upt he story, I would have to be a damn good liar and he may have believed it.....The story is 100% true. I was nearly side swiped, which is why I drove into the median. It was pure coincidence that my wife called not 30 seconds after it happened, but then she always does call me right after work...and this was right after work.

I guess I should have worded it correctly. I just meant that I THINK I got out of the ticket because I was so mad and because he didn't think somebody could make up that story so fast. Which is why I didn't have to make anything up, it really happened.

I don't think the majority would mind if you cussed ABOUT something - if they did they would tell you to stop and I would suggest doing it. Let's remember cops cuss - they've been known to say "STOP OR I'LL BLOW YOUR F**KING HEAD OFF!!"

IMHO cops do deserve our respect.
I respect cops, I just dislike most of them. I don't have to like them to respect them. I respect the patience and courage they have to do what they do. That said, there are a lot of real a**hole cops out there.

As for the kidnapping/rape thing...I'm not so worried. If somebody breaks into my house, they'll be staring down the wrong end of a .45. I'm not hiding in my room until the cops show up.

I think cops get a lot of crap from people because of the disrespect they show to most people. Prime example:

I got pulled over 4th of July weekend. Me and friend of mine were pulling out of a liquor store, had not had anything to drink previous to this trip, and when I pulled out a cop came up behind me. I was not driving over the speed limit, just cruising down the road like everyon else, then all the sudden I see the blue light special behind me. I pull over, and he says the reason he pulled me over was because my Margaritaville license plate holder was blocking the expiration on my tag. Now personally I really dont believe this was his intention, I believe that although that may be a violation, he saw me come out of the liquor store parking lot, and that was a way to pull me over, just so he could investigate to see if I had been drinking. I have had that on my car for two years now, and have even gotten speeding tickets with it on there before, and no officer ever said a word, not even, "Oh, by the way, you might want to ditch the license plate holder, we have to see your expiration." Anyways, it kind of p*** me off, just because I know that weekend there were a lot of other people that could have used that officers help...instead he is pulling me over because of a license plate holder. I think they assume way too much a lot of times.

Sounds about right. My other bad encounter was with a deputy sheriff. He pulled up beside me while I was getting the mail at my apartment complex. My radio was too loud  It was a little loud, but I couldn't hear it from my mailbox (20 feet away)...the law is 50 feet...but he said he heard it from a 1/2 mile away  He came up screaming at me, "turn that f*cking music down, I should give you a f*cking ticket"...then he proceeded to harass me about my truck, saying he could probably give me 5 other tickets (at that time, I had a 98 4 door blazer, lowered, on chrome, etc). So I bit and said, "oh yeah? like what". He named every piddly thing from my windows being tinted too dark, my bumber height wasn't high enough and my tread on the tires wasn't deep enough. So I fired back, "my front windows aren't even tinted and the rear windows are factory, nothing illegal there. My bumper is lower than most trucks, but still way higher than any sports car on the road and my tread is well above legal limits). I shut him up fast. I knew every bit of the law when it came to my truck, but he still came cussing and screaming at me before I even said a word

Only other incident was when I was 16. I was going to the rec center to play some baseball with my friends. I had a bat leaning against the passenger seat off the floor board. I got pulled over speeding. Which I wasn't speeding. A WEEK earlier, they changed the speed limit from 55 to 65 in that area. He "forgot" the limit changed. But he saw the bat (also a glove in the passenger seat) and said I was carrying an illegal weapon. He then took the bat out of my truck and THREW, not set, THREW it into the back of my truck, as it banged and rolled around. And never once did I do something illegal. On a side note, that cop was fired shortly after for having so many complaints against him.
