Dogs in the workplace?

The owners of my company bring their white lab to work. She is well behaved, doesn't bark and causes little trouble. They have a another curly haired mutt who yaps and is a runner. Now the owners are divorcing so "he" gets the lab and "she" gets the mutt. For the past 2 weeks.. the mutt has been coming to work as well. Prolly cause "she" wants the same benefits as "he".
Today I came in the door from lunch and the mutt RAN thru my legs into the parking lot... across a VERY busy highway and almost got run over numerous times. "She" had everyone (10 of us here) chasing after this dog! Well we caught him but suffice to say... while we are all dog lovers, this goes beyond the call of duty!
And we are dying to all bring our own dogs in.... just to make a point...but doubt that would go over real well! They own the company so we know they can do what they want. But I was just curious as to your take? Bring Spot to work or leave him / her home?

leave them at home. I feel very bad for my dog having to stay at home for 11 hours straight, but work is no place for the dog. I'm hardly even in my office during the day, I couldn't pay attention to him here either. At least at home he has a couch

I say leave them the dog(s) at home, that's where mine stay all day. The biggest advantage to having them at my work is that it would raise the average IQ in the building.

Just have to share... Our 25 yr old 'keet works for a privately owned environmental
consulting firm that has a lovely office building of their own. It seems that everybody
who owns one brings their dog to work, including the owners, of course. (Son has a
cat who would probably take them all out, so Ziggy stays home.)
Anyway, as a joke there was a list posted of the
"Ten Top Excuses for Being Late to Work"
and my personal favorite was...

The only way dogs belong in the workplace is if you're having Chinese takeout for lunch.

Before our company was merged, we had a different set of senior management. One of them had a rather rotund black lab due to him wandering our office and eating out of the trash and whatever he could get. I can't count how many times I would walk away for a minute and come back to find the contents of my trash can strewn across the floor. I ended up picking it up at one point and started dumping it in his office. He couldn't peg who was doing it because I always did it when he was at lunch, but whenever he would make a stink about it, someone would always say 'how does it feel'. I absolutely adore dogs, but having to watch and pick up after one is not what I want to do at work.

I work in a restaurant. Health department would shut us down...even if we were a Chinese restaurant!

In 1984 when I first became General Manager of the Clinton Giants, I had a mutt-border collie. She was the sweetest, most loving thing, but she was not at the time this happened completely trained.
A high school friend of mine died in an accident and I had to go to Chicago on short notice. Since all the kennels were full, I put her in the visitor locker room with a big bowl of water, actually four toilets also to drink from, and a bowl of food. Went to the visitation that night and drove virtually all night to get back.
Since it was the first day of a home stand, I got there at about 9:00 am. The visiting teams trainer will usually show up at about 1-2pm and unpack for the set and then the team comes back at about 4pm.
I pull into the parking lot at 9:00am and there is the Waterloo Indians bus AND all 25 players and their manager, former big leaguer Steve Swisher and my dog running around between them. Steve was redder than I have ever seen a human being, I walked up and he lit into me with a 20 minute profanity laced diatribe about "Professional" baseball and what a mockery I had just made of it. I went in the locker room and there is pee and dogpiles everywhere. He was justifyably madder than he!!. I never should have done it, but I knew I couldn't go to the funeral on a home game day, so I had to go to the wake. For the next seven years, everytime I saw Steve, I apologized. He never got over it and I have never taken a dog to work again.

That's Nick Swisher's dad, right?

I don't generally take my dogs to work, but I have when they needed to go to the vet or something.
I have a friend that takes hers to work every day and it works out well for her situation. She works for a scrap yard in a very bad area of the downtown Elizabeth, so in her case her dog serves as protection.

I've had one of my dogs with me at the office before, but only because I was stopping by after hours to pick up some paperwork. There is NO WAY I'd ever bring either of my dogs to work with me.
Especially since my wife has retired, is home all day, and can care for them MUCH better than anyone at work.

I have never worked anywhere where one could take a dog to work....other than the MWDs .....
I have never been much for ankle nippers,...but recently someone threw one out.......he has become a great companion and has the heart of a lion.
More so than Col. Bud who is not even a year old yet.......but outweighs the ankle nipper, by at least 60 pounds.....
I would rather leave them at home.........rather than transport them every day to a job.....The ankle nipper has no problem going for a ride and loves it....

I think it all depends on where you work. I have been to plant nurseries and lawn mower shops, etc. where they have a dog or cat hanging around. It's kind of neat I think under certain circumstances. An office situation don't think it would be appropriate. Of course it also depends on the temperment of the animal.
A girl in our office had to pick up her miniature poodle at the groomer's but still had some work to do late in the afternoon once so she brought "Gigi" in for an hour or so. She was really cute( with her pink bow and painted toenails )and well behaved, but obviously the rest of us didnt get much work done!
