New Album??

I heard from a Parrothead friend of mine that Jimmy is supposedly writing some new songs for a new upcoming album. Maybe I'm late on the news, but I hope this is true mainly because it means more touring. I was also told that he was going to stick to more of his "roots" with this new music rather than the country stint which seems to have come and gone. Anyone know anything about this?? Thanks

I've read reports of him working with Little Feat on their next album as well as doing some recording for the soundtrack to the upcoming movie Hoot. As for abandoning the "country" sound of License To Chill for his roots, his roots are in country music.

I fully agree that his "roots" are country...HOWEVER...to be completely honest...was it the country sound that made him a hit?? I like to think that it was when he started with the "escapism" / Island music was when he really started to hit it big. I mean look at his concerts...everyone wears their finest (or cheasiest) Hawaiian shirt adorned with leighs, etc. To me, that is what made him famous, and that is what I was referring to. Just thought I'd clear that up. I'd love to hear another album like Banana Wind or Fruitcakes personally.

His first "hit" was "Come Monday" which had more of a country sound but "Margaritaville" was the bigger hit which was a mixture of country and Caribbean influences so I think it's the combination of both. I know it was that sound, along with those lyrics that first drew me to his music back in the early 70s. And, as much as I like Banana Wind and Fruitcakes it's the early records I enjoy the most.

Regardless of this mindless banter...I was just curious of the possibility of a new album. Like I said previously, if there is one thing that comes with a new CD, its a tour to promote it. Just wondering if anyone had any ACTUAL information. Thanks

If anyone had actual information, it probably would have been posted before you asked the question.....

Actually, I think Jimmy's "roots" are folk, but the route he took to stardom includes country.

The topic of his new album
has has come up before and will definitely come up again. I offered up the only knowledge I have of it from reading various posts at BN. Yes, most (if not all) of it was speculative but until Buffett makes some sort of official announcement it will very likely remain that way. My only suggestion is to do a search in order to find the find the very same info I referenced in my previous post. Bottom line is, I don't think there's any concrete evidence of him working on a new album at this time.

Oh gee, I dunno, I prefer the "drunk Carribbean Rock and Roll" description as far as roots go...
BTW, I don't know anything about a new album. I've been a member of this board for eons but don't post much at all. But I do have to comment that it's nice to see that there is drama on other boards....I post pretty regularly to another board that is local to my area and people get so upset about the drama and back biting......Nice to know it's not just localized to one board---seems to be a trend.
Anyway, sorry to be off topic, but just been feeling like typing that for a while now....

Are we sure it's not just stuff for the Hoot soundtrack? He was talking about that during the pre-show interview.
