The Louies Backyard website...

Post by Calypso Poet 99 »

...has Jimmys last name mispelled. You would think that if they were bragging about him frequenting the place, the could at least spell his name correctly.

I was just checking the place out because I'll be in Key West in a couple of weeks and thought I might try it.

Anyone have any input?

Louie's is my personal favorite bar on the island. I enjoy having a few drinks around 4:00 PM and the atmosphere here is wonderful. It is also a very cool place to end up at midnight or so and wind down. You never know who you will see there. It is very expensive to eat there though.

It's a little pricier than the Duval-area type of restaurant. Entree prices in the $25 plus range. The food is fantastic, with a classy atmosphere. It's a great late-night hangout, grab a drink and listen to the waves crash on the shore!

Also...the ownership has changed at least once since the days that Jimmy hung out there...and the restaurant itself has been completely changed.

I am thinking Camille's, if you need an Eye Opener, or the Southernmost Pharmacy for Cuban sammiches myself...

Last year I finally made it to Louie's and have no desire to go back.
The locals at the bar outside were jerks, especially when they found out we were Parrotheads. I know it was just one day but the place seemed a little too uppity/polo shirt-ish for me (at least the attitudes were) but then I usually go for the rustic joints.

I agree. A group took me there last year for my birthday. The service was horrible, the food so-so and NOT worth the price. 4 little shrimp on a plate, nothing else, for $18. I still have about $40 on my gift certificate so I think we'll go there for drinks this year. It's a great place to sit outside and drink but I won't go back for dinner.
