Sy-
I'd definately ignore those arrogant idiots, because it IS none of their business, and even if you DID answer them, I'd doubt if they'd comprehend anything you say.
But I'll glady answer YOUR question-
When I met my wife, I was in my early 40's, and she was in her mid-40's. She had a son, then 15 (now 27) and a daughter, then 19 (now 31), and we didn't get married until about six years later (I was 47, she was 50), so our OWN kids never was an option.
But, THE thing that got me to "pop the question"-I was sitting at home alone one night playing a bunch of C.D.s. Then the song "Desperado" by the Eagles began playing. I listened to it, backed it up, listened to it again.
Listening to THAT song was what got me to decide I should take the plunge. (And I haven't looked back, nor do I intend to).

Airfare for 4 to Maui is definitely NOT cheap. :-? :-?
It is if you stuff 3 of them in the overhead compartment.

Perhaps followed up with a "duh!". That's what I would say, but this line would only work for someone who is otherwise known for her sarcasm. Geez. What a tacky question for people to ask! :o
Oh I actually have said that to a couple of them. I got this answer back from one in particular:

'well, isn't it just easier to live together then? If you got tired of each other, you can just leave then because you don't have any kids to worry about.' That was from a woman who had 5 kids.
Boy do I feel sorry for HER! :o

I've also had one woman say to me 'so what exactly do you do with all that time with him if you don't have kids to keep you busy?' :o
I'd say I can do things that I find fulfilling. Next question?

I'm loving the one liners. I need to memorize them.
Wow! this sure did spark some interest!!! 8)

habourgirl wrote: Tell them you got married so you could spend the rest of your life with the one you love! What's more romantic than that? Thanks for those words :) I just get so many stupid questions because I don't freely throw my life out there for everyone to gossip about.

By far the stupidest: I actually am almost deaf in my left ear from a horseback accident (no madonna jokes, please ;) ) when I was younger. So when people talk to me on my left side, I don't hear them very well if at all. Actually had a person in our call center apparently talking to me while I was walking through, thought I was ignoring them, got indignant and said, 'what are you, deaf?' The guy sitting next to him looked over, called him an *sshole, and said yes, she is.

I attract these types of people, I'm convinced of it.

sy wrote:I am almost 31. I have been married for over 6 yrs, been with him for 12. Kids are not going to happen, ever. But I am met over and over with the question 'so when are you going to have kids?'. I've gotten it from family, work people, friends I haven't seen in ages, etc.

Now a lot of people when I say never, let it go. But today, and at least half a dozen times in the past follow up my answer with 'So.....why did you bother to get married then?'. I've given different tirades depending on who it is, but I find that to be a completely senseless and insensitive answer, as though the only reason to get married is to have children, and no other.

I'm curious as to other opinions. I got that question today, again, and it's just bugging me.
That's just plain rude. What you choose to do with your life is your business. Don't let people like that get under your skin.

give the ol "we can't have kids for medical reasons " answer.... nosy people tend to feel really stupid when they hear that one.

That's all the reason you need. I've been thru exactly what you are going thru with my now ex-wife. We didn't want kids and got sick of explaining why.

We'd be at a restaurant with friends that had questioned our decision, and a few kids would act up and we would just look at them and smile. At that moment, they started to understand.

I just can't believe how tactless those people can be. It's a good thing they will pass that trait along to their kids. :P
Dumb and drunk as I was, you know I would do it all again.

Ok, I was wrong when I previously said there were no stupid questions!

My stupid answer would be "to get money and presents"!
