Depends on what you cook. Last time I cooked a full meal for my fiancee, the ingrideants were around $75..
Thats some meal! :o
exactly. for your general everyday meals, it is a lot cheaper to make at home yourself. Unless you are an attorney and bill $300+/ hour, the cost of your time is not that significant. And if you slowroast some adobo pork, you can be doing other things while it is reaching perfection. There is no hamburger and a couple beers worth $20 (with tax and tip) that you can't make at home for less.
hamburger and a couple beers and it's $20, where the hell are you eating

Granted I had some left overs, but usually by the time I'm through cooking and cleaning I'm not hungry anymore.
I can go to my favorite restaurant, get a good meal, a couple beers or cocktails, tip well and have it easily under $20. Or I can get a kick ass bbq meal at Sonny's for under $10....

compared to buying steak, chicken, or anything to make my own bbq type stuff.....you can't buy a T-bone for under $15 right now :x
$5.99/lb. here. Bag of Potatoes (so you have a few left for things like side dishes and removing broken lightbulbs from sockets). not that much. box of rice pilaf, or some other side for a bit of the exotic..

I love to eat out during the week because I work and I find it relaxing not to have to prep, cook and clean up after a long day. I am fine with Wings, BBQ, fast food, slow food.... dont care as long as I dont have to do it.

However since there are 2 of us.... $20 becomes $40 ... and I can cook any 3-4 "regular" meals for that. So we compromise... and eat out at least twice a week.

I'm the opposite. I find creating a meal to be fun and rewarding!

Who eats more than a half pound of steak at a meal?? Portion sizes in restaurants are obscenely large, I find. I always bring home at least half of my entree.

Yesterday: Ted's Montana Grill. 8.50 for a burger, 6 bucks for beers, 3 dollar tip. Just about $20. Last time I eat there tho.

BW3 burgers are about $6, beers are about $4, and a tip: about $3, so again, Just about $20. by comparison:

$2.99 for better hamburger/lb. $5.49/6 of Amberbock (same beer as at BW3 for comparison), condiments and bun: $1.50 (max). No tip. I think the numbers are better on the "fix at home" thing. :D

I do on the weekends, but during the week, screw it. After working 10-12 hours a day, last thing I want to do is cook. I'll sit my lazy ass on a bar stool and drink while somebody else makes my food

In that case, I agree. Hops has a great burger for $3 (at the bar only), I can get 2 great house-brewed beers for $2, and then tax/tip.....I can get out pretty cheap. But I'm also a regular there, so I get better deals. Last night, I had 3 beers and paid for 1. My best deal I've gotten off....my bro and I went in to do some drinking...each had 6 Makers Mark & coke....grand total bill, only charged for 3 drinks.

In many cases, you also pay for ambiance and good service. Or at least it's supposed to be good service.

No doubt. The bartender only charged you for 3, not 6. They figure this leads to a bigger tip. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

This is just one of the many tricks bartenders use to steal from their employers.
