We went to a restaurant with FIL a few weeks ago that was billed as "Upscale Comfort Food". $9 for a bowl of MacNCheese.

OK, that's a bit ridiculous....

I'd only charge $7.00

See, I'd pay $7. If it was a damn good bowl of MacNCheese. The chain "Noodles" I think charges 5 or 6. That's deal withable in a pinch and it's pretty decent.

Seriously, though. Some places will overcharge for kids meals, figuring that the parents have no choice but to get the kid what they want. It's that same mentality that leads Tiki to 3 places to pick up dinner. Some parents are afraid to tell their kids "No" in public. Once you are there, you're usually going to buy something. They have you trapped by the kids meal price at that point.

I think as a "regular" getting a freebie now and then should be acceptable... but we have a local place here that the Bartender does it thinking he'll get the bigger tip... and I think its wrong. If I sit at a bar, I can afford what I order.

No doubt. The bartender only charged you for 3, not 6. They figure this leads to a bigger tip. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

This is just one of the many tricks bartenders use to steal from their employers.
It's not just the bartenders. There's basically a mental list of "regulars" - those of us are there at least 3 times a week. Even the managers know about it. When there's a new bartender and they serve us for the first time, they're told how to charge us and to get to know us. We're all on a first name basis with every bartender

While going out to eat can be a nice treat on occasion, there's really nothing quite like a nice homecooked meal. This time of year that can range from fresh mahi-mahi to shish kabob on the grill...

I'm lucky and have a cool kid that likes grown-up food. She'd take a nice steak over a hot dog (she won't touch 'em) anyday.

It's a huge parent-trap, though, going out to eat. At LoneStar for example, the steak dinner isn't but $1 more expensive on the kids menu than the hot dog dinner and it's just soooooooooo much better.

well... You don't want to know about last year's trip to El Siboney then, do you... :D
Awww, go ahead, R2 . . . gross me out!
The BPHC goes in for the Club Dinner on Friday night after StreetFest during MOTM. I ordered a regular meal for myself. Katie (the cool older sister I never had), and her roommates ordered theirs. I finish mine. Have a pleasant, happy glow from membership in the Clean Plate Club. All three women decide that rather than carrying doggie bags back to the room and having leftover Cuban food in the fridge, it would be better to give the leftovers to the one guy sitting at the table. End Result: 4 clean plates... no doggie bags. :D

Most (not all) places will allow the bartenders a "Bar tab" so they can buy for people. But most places will also have a rule about how many for one person. Buying every other drink would be way above and beyond.

maybe one free out 5, sure. 3 drinks out of 12 poured, there is no way that qualifies as just taking care of the regular customer.

well, they have a fairly generous happy hour. The regulars always get happy hour prices (2 for 1), for any type of drink (since normal happy hour is limited to the cheap stuff), at any time of day. Sometimes they go beyond that...such as last night, where I had 3 for 1.

I'm still baffled by that one, really. I have no clue how I got THAT good of a deal...you woulda thought I gave the guy a hummer  They may have just made a mistake, because that one certainly isn't a regular occurence.
