I'm up to my undies in fundraisers!!!

It's the first week of school for my sweet Victoria and we're already bombarded with Gold C/Entertainment books as well as next month's fun run and November's charity dinner/dance.
Is it like this for anyone else or am I just nuts?? I don't mind the fun run as we do it every year and the dinner/dance is easy as we donate crafty things that SMIL does to the school for the silent auction, but I hate selling crap (or having Victoria try and sell crap) to neighbors and family that are already so inundated by other neighborhood and grandchildren and nieces/nephews and such...they make the pity purchase for what is basically semi-useless coupon books. AND they get the kids all fired up about doing it by enticing them with seemingly unattainable prizes and such.
It seriously makes me want to scream sometimes. What kind of fundraisers do you do at your kids' school? Do they make you totally nuts? Any good experiences????
Note: Girl Scout cookies are the exception to this rule because, well, everyone loves GS cookies!!!
P.S. If you want to buy a Gold C/Entertainment book, please let me know as I promised the keet I'd pimp her books to my ParrotHead friends.

I agree that the fundraisers have gone overboard. We only did one major fundraiser a year and it was always hugely successful...so much so that we couldn't do any more or we would lose our non profit status or whatever it is. Who knew that so many people wanted to buy really expensive wrapping paper?
We also get hit by the various scout fundraisers, Little League, basketball and all that, not only from students but also from the kids of fellow staff. I had certain kids that I would buy stuff from, and that was it...otherwise I'd be buying from every kid at school.

I hated it, my keet hated it.... so I just would let her pass the "book" or whatever it happened to be around to whomever she felt comfortable with... then I would write a donation check!

I didnt allow her to knock on strangers doors.
It wasnt bad back in the day... I recall I sold M & Ms @ 50 cents a box... now days you need a second mortgage!
GS Cookies didnt need "selling".. everyone knew when to start asking about them!!!

You got that friggin' right!!!
This year the school is aiming afor only 3 fundraisers (not including athletic fundraisers) but they are all before Christmas!
Throw the talent show in there (non-fundraiser but Victoria's big "thing" and the fall Intermediate program) and I'm not going to be able to exhale until January!

Or at least just the ones with a lisp.

The first year, Ryan was back in public school, the school sent out letters saying IF every family would send $25, the school would not have to have fund raisers.
I couldn't get my checkbook out quick enough

They did a survey last year about fundraising etc. etc. and that was one thing I SERIOUSLY wanted to have happen this year. We're not quite there yet, but 3 fundraisers is better than the 5 last year. Besides, without all the freakin' fundraisers, the coffee moms have nothing to do with their lives.

In the biblical sense? Yes. Hubby played football. Aside from that, I don't care much for jocks.
In the school sense? Not yet, but Victoria can play sports on the widget teams this year, and she's eyeing volleyball in the spring.

The ones I remember for elementary school were selling candy bars. They went well for $1 a piece back then. Now the same bars are going for $3 when I see folks selling them at work.

I pay taxes for kids to go to public school AND pay tuition for my daughter to go to private school.

That's a whole new Oprah.
