We use 'dude' because it's quick, easy, and sounds funny. Sometimes I use 'bubba'. 'Bubbette' is even funnier.

I really couldn't stand 'dude'.. especially for a female. HATE 'chick'..
But I find that I do say 'dude' once in a while now.. but still only for a guy.

I dunno dude... I've been saying it for like over 15 years now... since I was young and being influenced by the Florida lifestyle... I guess it was inevitable...
I did start to notice it was becoming more wide spread about 7 or 8 years ago...
And for females I use chiquita as well... as well as chica... occassionally I'll use a dudette, but I personally started phasing that out of vocabulary like 10 years ago...
And since someone mentioned "surfer" language... did ya know that "surfer" is also it's own fashion group/style now... I did not realize this until a few weeks ago... and here all this time I've just considered myself "beach bum"...
And I never knew Penny hated "chick" so much... I use it a lot

What she fails to mention is that in Aussie land... Dude is a proper first name... and for slang, they call guys names like Bob and Tom
Sorry... water goes down the drain backwards... figured perhaps this was opposite too

No .. well as you know .. we use "mate" ... I rarely do - that is reserved for my nephew .... hardly ever use it for anyone else. I just prefer to address people with their preferred name ......
It doesnt go down backwards ...... just a different direction

(I think yours is actually the backwards way Doode!! ....

I like the word "dude" and I like the word "chick".....as in
"He's a cool dude" and "That chick has a nice rack".....
They're just good words.....whether they are cool or not....
I also like the word 'groovy' and 'hot'.......as in a "Hot bike" and a 'groovy day'.....
whatever....and also how often I use the aforementioned words is in direct proportion to how much I've had to drink....which tonight, is a lot.
Good night all!!
