I love how when music best lists are compiled, country artists are always left off. If you don't like country, fine, but at least acknowledge the fact that these people are talented. Music snobs p*** me off.

I'm shocked that Kurt Cobain was #12. I'm surprised he was on the list at all.

Am i like the only person in the world who knows who Rory Gallagher is...

because he should def be on the list !!
I hope that all the greedy bastards in the world
Come back as lobsters.
You know that life at the bottom of the food chain
Suits them well.
I think that all of the evil people of the world
Come back as horseflies,
They want one last bite before they're sent to hell.

The folks who put this list together should have listened to John McLaughlin and the Mahavishnu Orchestra's "Inner Flame." The list would have been 99 spots shorter! JOHN
I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now!

I'm not sure what the criteria was for compiling this list but I sorta doubt it had anything to do with snobbery. If a country music magazine compiled a list of best guitarists and Hendrix wasn't included I wouldn't exactly be surprised.

This must be a VH1 list. They have a love affair with anything Nirvana.

Oh well. The list is what it is.

If each of us here were to compile our own lists I'm sure they'd all be markedly different. It doesn't have to turn into a competition just because RS didn't pick a guitarist someone feels is worthy of inclusion.

Exactly! That alone makes this list absurd. And Eddie Van Halen down at #70!?!?

And Kim Thayil listed but not Jerry Cantrell? Ugh, please!

At least they put John Frusciante on there... he's so underrated & under-recognized.

"Best" doesn't always mean most technically proficient. I'm no big Nirvana fan but I can definitely see where they (and Cobain) end up on so many "Best of" lists. As for Eddie Van Halen, I thought he was a very brillant guitarist at one time but that's just it, he seemed to reach a point and never surpassed it. We'll never know but if Randy Rhodes had lived I feel like he would have gone on to be one of the best guitarists of our time and everyone would have forgotten all about Eddie Van Halen.
