"Shoot to Kill"
I am normally a pretty docile, tree hugging, neo-liberal type. But when I saw the articles about "Looters strike Gulf Coast" I flipped out. What kind of scum sucking butt-wipes are there in this world?
When I was a kid and the riots of '68 burned much of Chicago's west and south side, Hizzoner, the late Richard J. Daley (the real Mayor Daley) issued a "Shoot to Kill" order to the CPD for those caught looting. As I recall, nobody got shot and the looting stopped.

I know that at least 24 ducks and a muddy dog do. (I don't think the wife is going to let me try for more after that)

The sick minded bastards that prey on the weak are out there.
The MSM ( Main Stream Media) has ignored what civilians do to protect their property
No MSM has ever mentioned how many looters were shot and killed in the Miami area after hurricane Andrew.
Anyone looting in Lousiana deserves what they get .either gator or mudbug bait.
Only sick minded bastards would dare to take such advantage of people.
May all of those that do such and commit such acts, face the local justice system.....and save the court system and the people the money and the time.
If you know the people there, then you know what I am talking about. If not then you don't. and feel free to call in the ACLU or whoever.....I am quite sure the ACLU will be interested in protecting and defending the people's property...better than a well armed Cajun can... uh - huh..... let us see THAT happen....

Ok..well here's how I have understood it. I've seen the videos on TV and heard the reports. It's not like we have folks floating 60" plasmas down the streets in their boats or anything. THe videos I saw are people who stayed and were in a grocery store carrying out essentials. Chips, pop tarts, powerade...Stuff that these people need to survive with no power or fresh water. Now there are those people who are taking advantage of the situation..sad, yes. Though these "looters" that are filling up bags full of groceries are just trying to get by. It may still be looting...but law enforcement is even looking the other way. I think in this situation it could almost be justified. Now i'd be right there with ya if I happened to see that floating 60" or a new stereo....i'm a decent shot myself
just my .02
just my .02
All I need are some tasty waves, a cool buzz & i'm fine

Daniel, sadly it wasn't just groceries being looted. There is a law on on the books in LA that "looting" as a means of survival (i.e. blankets, food, water, flashlights/batteries) does not fall in the same category as burglary, larceny, grand larceny etc. If folks need those items to survive then they can take them. No matter how much we might like to think, beer/alcohol are not necessary for survival.
Nor are TVs, electronics, jewelery and entire wardrobes of clothing....and all of that was being taken as well.
Yeah, being poor sucks. But a hurricane or other natural disaster does not entitle anyone to the right to benefit from another's loss. And the fact that so many of the looters were kids makes this even more pathetic.

Sadly, it's a reflection of the prime directive in American culture these days that "it's not my fault." It is no leap at all from the "not my fault" mentality to rationalizing stealing other people's stuff when they aren't looking. Misfortune=I'm entitled.

Even more so, it's the attitude "Hey, they rich, they got insurance, they'll replace it for nothin".
In these times of an ever-diminishing middle class, I can almost see (though NOT condone) their thinking.
But, what really disgusted me was seeing families returning to very modest HOMES to find that THEY had been looted.
A lot of those people have no insurance to cover their their flood damage, let alone their possessions like TV or VCR.
gotta say, I would be guarding my place with a 12-gauge and an itchy trigger finger

When I bought my very first home EONS ago, even though I knew it would take some time to get all the things I wanted for the house, one of the VERY FIRST things I bought was a 12 gauge for obvious reasons.
