New Orleans Margaritaville and Lulu's Sunset Grill
Anyone heard if these two businesses suffered any damage from Katrina. If so, how bad?
Thanks
Thanks

Per Lulu's website they suffered no major damage and will be open normal hours starting tomorrow, but some of their entertainment may change. There was no info on the Margaritaville Cafe in New Orleans but I am sure there was some flood damage considering the French Quarter was under water due to the levee failures. Also the mayor was calling for the entire city to be evacuated because of the extensive damage. My local news said tonight it will never be the city it once was. Its very sad New Orleans was one of my favorite places. God bless them all.
Living the life. I've got palm trees in MY yard!!!!!
I thought I saw that those streets where Margaritaville is were still dry today, but that since the pumps were about to go and the levee could not be patched, they expected it to rise about 12 or so more feet.
I suppose there won't be a dry street in the French Quarter after that.
BUT, let's hope for the best for them all.
I just saw a great suggestion to help get folks out and back towards home or away if they want to leave...someone suggested the cruise ships give folks a lift!
WE may see all kinds of folks with Jimmy Buffett shirts on in the future.

Just want to say to all my PH friends in New Orleans, including the wonderful staff at Mragaritaille, and the Towns Around Biloxi and the whole Gulf Coast that I am thinking of you and sending you big hugs. Hello to everyone I met at the Blonde Stanger phlocking a year and a half ago. I have always intended to return to NO, and will be ready when you are!

From the NOLA M'ville webpage:
Our Store Is Closed
The New Orleans store is temporarily
closed due to the devastating effects
of Hurricane Katrina. The historic
French Quarter and surrounding city
are uninhabitable, and residents are
being urged to remain where they are
safe.
At this point it is impossible to say
when we will be able to resume normal
business. Family and personal safety
obviously come first. We will forward
any and all information regarding the
city and the store if you have elected
to receive newsletters and
announcements through the New
Orleans location.
Thank you for understanding.

I noticed on the news today that with the rising tide and the pumps not working, that there was more flooding and that it would rise to the level of the lake. What an engineering disaster, but it is amazing to watch the problem solving in progress.
The mayor of Slidell is such an amazing person. I guess I never learned much about that "city."
Doesn't it all just make you cry!

I was going to drive to Houston, and then to New Orleans two weeks ago...didn't make it becuase of work...and then I was going to go this previous weekend....didn't go becuase I just didn't feel like it. I wish I would have gone two weeks ago, becuase now I feel like I'll never see it for what it was...what about famous areas like Bourbon Street? Gone?

The store/knickknack section is probably safe. I wouldn't gamble the bar makes it thru in one piece.MigrationMan wrote:I hope Margaritaville is not being looted by those assholes...

As of this morning the water in the quarter is about 9" at it's depest point, just coming onto the sidewalks. The part of the quarter where Mville is is still dry. The water is comning from Canal St. to the west and from Rampart St tot he North.

so lacking access to a topog map, the river bank is higher (relatively) in the area around M'ville?thill381 wrote:As of this morning the water in the quarter is about 9" at it's depest point, just coming onto the sidewalks. ahhhh... I have never spent the necessary time learning the history, always just took it for granted that NO was part of the French "migratory with a few settlements" Empire in the New World and never took it any further. That, and the fact that I have never spent any time there.AlbatrossFlyer wrote:the french quarter is slightly above sea level. that's why the french settled there...RinglingRingling wrote:so lacking access to a topog map, the river bank is higher (relatively) in the area around M'ville?thill381 wrote:As of this morning the water in the quarter is about 9" at it's depest point, just coming onto the sidewalks. Here's a video link to a CNN report in the French Quarter. It seems whatever was dry, isn't anymore.
