All-Inclusive Resorts
I know for many that it's hard to think of vacation right now, but as a former New Orleanian myself, I'm starting to feel the need for a vacation more than ever.
I'm getting married in November, and though we've talked about what to do for our honeymoon, now it's time to actually make the plans. The only thing that's definite is that we want a beach in the Caribbean or maybe Mexico. We're looking for somewhere relatively quiet, but with things to do when we want entertainment, and we want to go all-inclusive for the ease of it.
I'm looking for people who have done the all-inclusive thing, especially in the Secrets Punta Cana in the DR, Sandals Grande St. Lucian, and Sandals Grand Bahamian, Aventura Spa Palace in Mexico, and anywhere else that BNers stayed and loved.
I know the timing is bad, but I appreciate any help and insight that any of you can offer.

Re: All-Inclusive Resorts
Heard really great things about that place when I was down there in June.PalmettoSon wrote: Aventura Spa Palace in Mexico
We stayed at the Barcelo Maya outside of Playa del Carmen which is just down the road from Aventura Spa Palace. It's probably not the super-quiet place you're imagining (the Barcelo that is) but it's absolutely gorgeous and the service was awesome. If I remember right, Aventura Spa Palace is an 18+ resort which would probably be a bit more peaceful.
The Barcelo was perfect for us though. Was a great mix of people of all ages. Not too many kids and not too many European men in Speedos.
This is a great resource site for where we stayed at the Barcelo:

Believe me, there's a reason people go back several times a year.
NJPhinPhan helped me book my trip and she did an awesome job. I'm sure if you sent her a PM she'd have a BOATLOAD of suggestions for exactly what you want.
Have fun whatever you decide!

We have stayed in both the Sandals Grand Bahamian and the one in St. Lucis. I liked the one in St. Lucia better...very beautiful, as is the island. The pool area is nicer and the resort seems a bit of an upgrade to the Royal Bahamian. Not to mention, the people of St. Lucia are nicer...doesn't seem that the Bahimians like Americans too much.
We also went to Breezes in Jamaica...that was also very nice and a lot of fun.
Good luck!

There are 3 Sandals in St. Lucia. Were you at the Grande, the Halcyon, or the Rengency?kitty wrote:We have stayed in both the Sandals Grand Bahamian and the one in St. Lucis. If you go to a resort... you will have NO problems! Walk the streets at Montego Bay or anywhere and you will be asked every 5 minutes if you "want anything"!
Oh and yes... Couples Ocho Rios is hurricane proof!!! And No Singles, No Kids and No exceptions!

We have never had any problems, but if we left the resort, we had a cab driver with us that would pretty much stay with us the whole time to push away anyone that may have bothered us! I always felt safe.ToplessRideFL wrote:PalmettoSon wrote:I've heard people say that Jamaica is a little dicey. Is this bad info?.

Correct! And actually..... that is anywhere in the islands...not just Jamaica. These are poor countries with high unemployment rates... but I would bet they are safer than our own New Orleans about now!shakerofsalt wrote:

I spent about a week in the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica several years ago, and never once felt unsafe. The town was definitely 3rd-world, but I was never hassled by anyone. I even walked around at night, and ate in local restaurants with the fishermen. That said, I never got that nervous going through the ghettos in New Orleans when I lived there, so I'm not that worried for myself. I just want to be sure that my bride is at ease throughout the trip.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Well, that is unless they are morons that work at fast food restaurants or live below sea level, right?ParrotheadGator wrote:never been to any of these places (though I'm storing everything for future reference).....just wanted to say Congratulations on getting married
I mean, congratulations is only deserved if PS and his bride-to-be are like you, correct?

and people call me an a**hole...I say what's on my mind, but you people jump all over every post that's not in aggreance with you.buffettbride wrote:Well, that is unless they are morons that work at fast food restaurants or live below sea level, right?ParrotheadGator wrote:never been to any of these places (though I'm storing everything for future reference).....just wanted to say Congratulations on getting married

I never once said I wished harm on any of these people, whether I like them or not. Just the same, since I'm already an a**hole, even though I wish you no harm, if you were to die some horrific tragic death tomorrow...I wouldn't feel the least bit sorry.
I simply said congratulations and you jump on my ass. Nice to know hypocrisy is alive and well.

Simply taking an inference from your attitude around these parts and implying them in such a way so that they made sense in all contexts. You know, for consistencies sake.ParrotheadGator wrote:and people call me an a**hole...I say what's on my mind, but you people jump all over every post that's not in aggreance with you.buffettbride wrote:Well, that is unless they are morons that work at fast food restaurants or live below sea level, right?ParrotheadGator wrote:never been to any of these places (though I'm storing everything for future reference).....just wanted to say Congratulations on getting married

I'm not sure how I'm a hypocrite in this situation.
I'm more than happy to respectfully disagree with anyone here, but do so with compassion (and some cheese from time to time).

you're a retard if you see a connection between my attitude towards issues such as getting sh*tty service at a drive-thru to me expressing congratulations to a person getting married. Now, I don't apply my attitude towards every topic...I've had quite a few regular conversations with many people....but the second I make a comment you don't agree with, you feel free to attack me. Have I said anything hurtful to you to warrant an attack, just because of differing opinions on issues? Not that I recall. But go ahead, play high and mighty, continue to be a fat twat, and continue to flame away.buffettbride wrote:Simply taking an inference from your attitude around these parts and implying them in such a way so that they made sense in all contexts.
