That is how the actually university represents itself, as well... as THE Ohio State University... the entire school is that specific, not just the football team or it's players.
But there is no excuse for Miami... they should just introduce themselves as criminals anyway.
(j/k... the current Miami football team is not like the 1980s Miami football teams)

Terrell Owens lost his arbitration case completely today giving Andy Reid full discretion of whether he plays.
Upon the decision, Gene Upshaw promptly fired the arbitrator for the NFL, which he has the power to do. This bugs me, the arbitrator (Bloch?) did the right thing and for that, he loses his job December 1, 2005.

actually it's 3..........and you could say that about most top level division 1 football programs.......Miami had there issues in the 8o's......but they aren't the only program..........yes i'm a Canes fan!!

Not "

If anything, the stress should be on State...as in:
"The Ohio
State University"
Used to differentiate between OSU and Ohio University.

You hire someone to do a job. He does that job exactly. You fire him for it?
Upshaw is an idiot...and he just made himself look as such. Now he should go cry to his mommy that the decision wasn't what he wanted. Maybe he'll get ice cream.

"The Ohio
State University"
Used to differentiate between OSU and Ohio University.
I believe both are land-grant colleges; but, OSU is pretentious in that they want people to believe they are more than a cow college. I like to think the "The" is to differentiate OSU from the "OH State University of Amateur Proctology", the "OH State University of Truck Rodeo Clowns", and the like.. it's important to get your brand and make it impervious from trademark infringement...
