My aunt in Philly told me last night that the city spent $1 million getting a shelter set up for 1,000 refugees, and only 35 came on the bus. And all of them were pretty mad about being sent to Philadelphia! :(

I can see that. After all those poor folks have been through, now they gotta deal with Philly. I'd be p*ssed off too.

Let's see, you just lost all your clothes and personal belongings. Now they are sending you to a city that will be iced over in a couple months. So now you've got to buy winter clothes that will never get used down on the bayou.

Houston... San Antonio... Memphis... Atlanta... Philly...
Which one doesn't belong?

Pittsburgh was ready for a plane-load of people, but they didn't get any takers! They're keeping the offer open, though, in case a week in the Astrodome changes anyone's mind. They refer in this article to having 12 evacuees, but I think that might be counting the 10 students CMU gave free tuition to. http://kdka.com/local/local_story_250095901.html

Just so PA doesn't feel alone in this ... the 2500 folks slated to come up here to MA declined that offer too.

They probably figure they will starve to death.....after all how many people up there ever heard of mudbugs, catfish, beingets, or gator tail? Or know how to cook a wicked mean pot of gumbo??? or red beans and rice??? How a bout dirty rice?? Know how to smoke mullet, without papers or a bong??? Can you find fresh okra anywhere? How many know what proper grits are.....let alone how to fix them???

Seriously most of these people are tied to the land and to the bayous...to their way of life. To their families and blood go back generations.....they may not have much...and even less after the b**** came to visit......but that is all they got. Most do not ask for much....they need understanding.... people think they talk funny? Well ever stop to think that think you talk funny and eat things that are strange?

How would you feel if you just lost everything you owned and your house and family, and were about to be deposited into a bayou? Would YOU leave your city and way of life so easily???

Think about it!!! Try to understand them and the shock that they are going through. May God give both people much deserved patience!
