Police find 8 Ohio kids locked in cages

-- Police in northern Ohio on Monday rescued eight children whose parents told authorities they kept the kids in locked cages for their own protection.

The children, ages 1 to 14, were found locked in cages at their home in Wakeman, about 40 miles southwest of Cleveland, according to Lt. Randy Sommers of the Huron County Sheriff's Office.

The children were all either adopted or foster children, he said.

Authorities said the kids were kept in wooden cages, less than 3 feet by 3 feet, without pillows or blankets.

Shortly after being found, the children were sent to Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk, where they were listed in good condition.

The children's parents, Mike and Sharon Gravelle, had 11 children in all, according to authorities.

Police said no charges had been filed against the parents.

"Basically, the parents thought they were providing for the protection of the children from themselves and from each other," said Sommers.

"They thought there was circumstances with these children that warranted the cages at night," Sommers added, but he would not go into details of what those circumstances were.

All 11 of the children found in the home have been placed in the custody of the Huron County Department of Children and Families.

Yep so that these convicts could make these people their bitches.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Life is short, live long!!

I'd rather be a wiseass than a dumbass.

That's how we do it 'round these here parts! You mean you didn't sleep in a cage when you were a child? :o  Hmmm..... maybe I should see someone about that.....

Seriously, that just shows how sad the foster system is here. Come on- don't they check on these people? These kids had been living in those conditions for quite a while.

A few of the cages were equipped with alarms in case they got out. The others were barricaded shut.

and yet they still have a problem with gay people being parents.......

State law says you can only have 6 children in a home day care setting, but they allow foster parents to have 11 children (or more)? What is wrong with this picture?

YES. And yet somehow these scumbags keep getting through. Each state's requirements are different, and I don't know what the foster guidelines are, but here in MA - to adopt a child you need to go through a homestudy process with a social worker, and have your criminal record checked. In addition, if you are adopting a child out of DSS or foster care, you are supposed to take a series of classes on parenting.

Yet they STILL get kids. My question - were all of these children adopted or fostered initially at the same time? Or did the homestudy worker for the last few MISS THE CAGES? :x

And if you ask the agency how this happens, they give you some ***** about how the caseworksers are overworked. Then quit putting kids in homes if you can't monitor them you jackasses!
