Hunting Season (Attention Frank and Tomm)

Post by PHBeerman »

How is hunting season treating y'all? Last weekend I had some in depth conversations with some bulls, and had one get within about 40 yards. It really does not get any better than that.

My season doesn't start until Oct. 1. I've been doing some scouting and work on a new archery stand. It would have been done earlier this week if not for a certain bear who decided she didn't want me in the area :lol:

Cool deal on the bull. How big?

The one that was close to me was a 5X6. However, the one that wouldn't come in must have been bigger. As he came in the other got the hell out of there in a hurry. If you have never had a Bull answer your bugle, you really need to give it a try. It is unreal.

I heard about the bear. I always have a bear tag in case I run across one.

I guess the closest I've come to that, is callin' in turkeys. Certainly not the same thing, but I do know the feeling.

As for the bear, I had my .357 with me, so I wasn't overly worried, but I really didn't want to hurt it for doing what came natural to it. I'm happy that I was fairly close to the truck, so it didn't have to come to that.

The only turkey I have ever shot was not during a real turkey hunt. (I was sitting in a hot tub) :lol: :lol: :lol:

I saw about 600 of the bastards this weekend though. I think I need to buy a blind and go get one with my bow next spring.

Now THAT's hunting.

On second thought, why did you have a gun in a hot tub?

A good friend of mine's father (Who has now passed) lived quite a ways from town and always had a gun hanging out by the hot tub. (Just in case anything that may be good for dinner walked by) We were sitting out there when the turkey walked up and I shot it.

I did the same thing to my dad!!! :lol: :lol: Then when he brought home the venison I'd cry. And I would refuse to eat any. But mom, being a mom, and dad, being a dad, never told me until AFTER I ate the venison. :evil: :evil: I sorta like it now if it's done right. Backstrap fajitas, venison sausage, venison chili and sometimes steaks - but only if done RIGHT.

MMM... your making my mouth water....nothing like coming home and hacking off a piece of what is hanging in the garage and cooking it up!

I think the best dinner conversation from my 5 year old was while we were eating our "kill", he decided to tell me that Grandpa cut it's head off with a saw! YUMMY! :lol:

I love venison. My grandpa, dad and uncles were all keen hunters and I grew up on it.

Hunting season starts this Saturday in Wisconsin. I've got several people now who will give me some if they have a good weekend.

<fingers crossed>
